Mega Millions Winner

A Mega Millions winner stood to take $266 million last night. There was a Mega Millions winner in the lottery results, although he or she hasn't been found yet. But after the lottery results were announced, they found
that the winning ticket came from California at a Hawaiian barbeque. Now the next step is to find who purchased it, as the Mega Millions winner stands to claim the eighth largest jackpot in the game's history. The lottery results seemed destined to drive the jackpot up even higher, but things finally turned out different.

Heading into last night's drawing, Mega Millions was the biggest lottery game in town at the moment. Powerball gave out a big prize a few weeks ago, leaving its rival in the spotlight as it pushed over $200 million. As such, any Mega Millions winner last night would have gotten up to $266 million, a jackpot that was rising up the record books.

If the Mega Millions lottery results pitched another shutout last night, the pot might have gone up to over $300 million. This was already the eighth largest grand prize in its history and could have gone on top of the record book in another week or two. But that was rendered mute when one lucky ticket got all of the winning numbers, resulting in one big Mega Millions winner.

The winning numbers were 9, 21, 31, 36 and 43, with the Mega number at 8. One ticket with all those numbers was sold in the L&L Hawaiian Barbeque on California's Washington Boulevard. Although most of that state is short on money, this Mega Millions winner will not have that problem for a while.

Seven other California lottery players matched the first five winning numbers but couldn't hit the Mega number. Three more people fell just short in New Jersey and Virginia, with two each in Ohio, New York, Missouri and Michigan. Seven other states had one player each get the first five, and they will get a $250,000 consolation.

However, the Mega Millions winner got a lot more, while the lottery results were a bit less profitable for the other California players. Since lottery prizes are on a pari-mutuel basis in California, those who hit the first five numbers will only get $179,428.
