Huma Asif Mian

Federal investigators say they are not conducting any Colorado investigation of the wife of alleged terrorist Faisal Shahzad.

Huma Asif Mian, who has not been implicated in her husband's alleged plot to detonate a car bomb in New York's Times Square, graduated from the University of Colorado in 2004.

Dave Joly, spokesman for the FBI's Denver office, said it does not appear that Huma Asif Mian has lived in the Denver area since 2005.

"She's not in Colorado as far as we know," he said. "We're not looking into anything here."

CU spokesman Bronson Hilliard said Huma Asif Mian enrolled at the Boulder campus in August 2000 and graduated with an accounting degree four years later.

Two of her sisters also graduated from CU. One received a bachelor's in accounting at Boulder and a master's from the University of Colorado Denver. Another attended school in Boulder for two years and then earned a bachelor's in biology from UCD.

All three women shared a CU Family Housing unit in Boulder from July 2002 to July 2004.

"There is no indication that they ever did anything wrong during their time here," Hilliard said.

A man identified by a neighbor as Huma Asif Mian's father, Mohammad Asif Mian, lived in the Deer Pointe neighborhood in Aurora until a few years ago. Deer Pointe is a middle-income neighborhood of condominiums and single-family homes off East Mexico Avenue, near Buckley Air Force Base Complex.

"They were good neighbors," said Johnny Wright, who lives next door to the home Mohammad Asif Mian shared with two young women and a young man that Wright said were his daughters and son. "They were just friendly neighbors. We'd speak to one another. They were nice."

Wright said Mohammad Asif Mian is an engineer who frequently worked overseas.

Huma Asif Mian's brother is studying petroleum engineering at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden. Their father earned a master's in science and petroleum engineering at Mines in 1980 and a master's in mineral economics in 1985, school spokeswoman Karen Gilbert said.
