Barbara Hershey

They had a 21-year age difference and endured a strain that would have sunk any other relationship, and still Barbara Hershey and Naveen Andrews continued as one of Hollywood's more endearing couples.

But now comes word that it quietly ended for Hershey, 62, and Andrews, 41, six months ago. "They remain best of friends," Andrews's manager Renee Jennet tells PEOPLE.

In 1998, long before Andrews would go on to star in TV's "Lost," the then-29-year-old actor met Hershey, then 50, a veteran of films such as "Beaches" and "Hannah and Her Sisters," on the set of the obscure 1999 indie film "Drowning on Dry Land."

They were together until a 2005 separation that was as brief as it was eventful: Andrews confirmed that during the split he fathered a child with another woman. Andrews and Hershey worked things out and continued their relationship until their breakup last year.

Veterans Day

Memorial day is a great and wonderful way to remember our patriotic heroes who sacrificed their lives to help us breathe the air of freedom. This day is observed with families and friends visiting cemeteries and memorials to pay homage to their loved and forgotten ones.

“Your silent tents of green
We deck with fragrant flowers;
Yours has the suffering been,
The memory shall be ours.”
–Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Memorial day was first celebrated on May 30, 1868. It was observed by placing flowers on the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers during the first national celebration. Gen. James Garfield made a speech at Arlington National Cemetery, after which around 5,000 participants helped to decorate the graves of the more than 20,000 Union and Confederate soldiers who were buried there.

Three years after the Civil War ended, on May 5, 1868, the head of the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) established Decoration Day as a time for the nation to decorate the graves of the war dead with flowers. Maj. Gen. John A. Logan declared that Decoration Day should be observed on May 30. This date was chosen because flowers would be in bloom all over the country.

The alternative name of “Memorial Day” was first used in 1882. It did not become more common until after World War II, and was not declared the official name by Federal law until 1967. On June 28, 1968, the United States Congress passed the Uniform Holidays Bill, which moved three holidays from their traditional dates to a specified Monday in order to create a convenient three-day weekend. The holidays included Washington’s Birthday, now celebrated as Presidents’ Day; Veterans Day and Memorial Day. The change moved Memorial Day from its traditional May 30 date to the last Monday in May. The law took effect at the federal level in 1971.

“Red Poppies are a tradition inspired by a poem in 1915 “In Flanders Fields,” Moina Michael replied with her own poem:

We cherish too, the Poppy red
That grows on fields where valor led,
It seems to signal to the skies
That blood of heroes never dies.

Memorial Day is a day of remembrance of those who have died serving our country. I tear at the sound of “Taps” played at ceremonies on Memorial Day.

We come, not to mourn our dead soldiers, but to praise them.

--Francis A. Walker.

I will tear up as well. We will be with our son, Scott, at his gravesite in Bigfork, Montana in memory of his service to our country. Have a fun, safe, and memorable Memorial Day weekend!

Horst Koehler

BERLIN — In a surprise announcement, German President Horst Koehler resigned Monday after being criticized for remarks in which he appeared to link military deployments abroad with the country's economic interests.

Koehler's decision came only a year into his second term as the largely ceremonial head of state.

Koehler, the former head of the International Monetary Fund, is a member of Chancellor Angela Merkel's Christian Democrats who has been president since 2004. In explaining his reasoning, he cited a week of "intense criticism" over a radio interview he gave following a visit to German troops in Afghanistan.

He said in that broadcast that military deployments could be "necessary ... in order to defend our interests, for example free trade routes."

That was taken by many as referring to Germany's unpopular mission in Afghanistan, though his office later said he was referring to anti-piracy patrols off the coast of Somalia,

Opposition politicians had demanded he take back the remarks and accused him of damaging public acceptance of German military missions abroad.

"This criticism lacks any basis," Koehler said at the president's Bellevue palace alongside his wife, Eva Luise. "It also is lacking in the necessary respect for the presidential office."

Bolder Boulder 2010

Ah, Memorial Day weekend in Boulder. The Creek Fest, the art show, the kiddie rides, the 7:00am start to the world's biggest 10k. And I was there. Next year, we hope you will be too.

The following is my little chronicle of the first BolderBoulder morning I haven't run it in years...anda  slideshow of fun pics I took too.

5:30am, May 31, 2010: It’s about an hour and a half from the start of the 32nd annual BolderBoulder 10k, when the first few waves of more than 50,000 runners will begin the 6.2-mile course through this gorgeous city and finish at the CU stadium, to the roar of crowds filling the stands and cheering the racers, runners and walkers on to their victory.

I live about three blocks away from the BolderBoulder start, and I can’t imagine the  insanity that must have taken over that area. Actually, I can: this is the first year of several that I won’t be participating in the BolderBoulder. I got lazy about signing up, which ended up being a good thing, as I am currently recovering from a nasty virus that hit me out of nowhere about five days ago. I’m not quite sick, enough, to not jog over to the start line and snap some photos of the first few waves.

So, enough of my babbling....go check out the slide show! I was fortunate enough to get some awesome shots, and it was a customarily beautiful Boulder day for it. Go BolderBoulder 2010!

Arlington National Cemetery

Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington County, Virginia is a military cemetery in the United States of America, established during the American Civil War on the grounds of Arlington House, formerly the estate of the family of Confederate general Robert E. Lee's wife Mary Anna (Custis) Lee, a descendant of Martha Washington. The cemetery is situated directly across the Potomac River from the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. and near The Pentagon. It is served by the Arlington Cemetery station on the Blue Line of the Washington Metro system.

In an area of 624 acres (2.53 km2), veterans and military casualties from each of the nation's wars are interred in the cemetery, ranging from the American Civil War through to the military actions in Afghanistan and Iraq. Pre-Civil War dead were reinterred after 1900.

Arlington National Cemetery and United States Soldiers' and Airmen's Home National Cemetery are administered by the Department of the Army. The other National Cemeteries are administered by the Department of Veterans Affairs or by the National Park Service. Arlington House (Custis-Lee Mansion) and its grounds are administered by the National Park Service as a memorial to Lee
One of the more popular sites at the Cemetery, the tomb is made from Yule marble quarried in Colorado. It consists of seven pieces, with a total weight of 79 short tons (72 metric tons). The tomb was completed and opened to the public April 9, 1932, at a cost of $48,000.

The Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery is also known as the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. It stands on top of a hill overlooking Washington, D.C.

The United States Department of Veterans Affairs does not list any Ásatrú symbols as available emblems of belief for placement on government headstones and markers.According to federal guidelines, only approved religious symbols — of which there are 39 — can be placed on government headstones or memorial plaques. Ásatrú Folk Assembly have demanded such a symbol. However, per the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 38.632 “Headstone and Marker Application Process” which went into effect on July 1, 2009, a decedent’s next-of-kin can request that a new emblem of belief be added to the list.

The United States Department of Veterans Affairs oversees the National Cemetery Administration's orders for placement of inscriptions and faith emblems at no charge to the estate of the deceased, submitted with information provided by the next of kin that is placed on upright marble headstones or niche covers. There are 39 authorized faith emblems available for placementto represent the deceased's faith. See also, the United States Department of Veterans Affairs webpage Available Emblems of Belief for Placement on Government Headstones and Markers.

Section 21, also known as the Nurses Section, is the area of Arlington National Cemetery where many nurses are buried. The Nurses Memorial is located there. In the cemetery, there is a Confederate section with graves of soldiers of the Confederate States of America and a Confederate Memorial. In Section 27, there are buried more than 3,800 former slaves, called "Contrabands" during the Civil War. Their headstones are designated with the word "Civilian" or "Citizen".

Arlington National Cemetery is divided into 70 sections, with some sections in the southeast portion of the cemetery reserved for future expansion.Section 60, in the southeast part of the cemetery, is the burial ground for military personnel killed in the Iraq War and the War in Afghanistan. In 2005, Arlington National Cemetery acquired 12 acres of additional land from the National Park Service, along with 17 acres from the Department of Defense that was part of Fort Myer and 44 acres that is the site of the Navy Annex.

The southern portion of the land now occupied by the cemetery was used during and after the Civil War as a settlement for freed slaves. More than 1,100 freed slaves were given land at Freedman's Village by the government, where they farmed and lived during and after the Civil War. They were turned out in 1890 when the estate was repurchased by the government and dedicated as a military installation.

The government had acquired Arlington at tax sale in 1864 for $26,800 . Mrs. Lee had not appeared in person, but rather had sent an agent, who attempting to timely pay the $92.07 in property taxes assessed the estate[5]. The government turned away her agent, refusing to accept the tendered payment. In 1877, Custis Lee, heir under his grandfather's will passing the estate in trust to his mother, sued the United States claiming ownership of Arlington. After the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 5-4 in Lee's favor in 1882, deciding that Arlington had been confiscated without due processCongress returned the estate to him. The next year Custis Lee sold it back to the government for $150,000 at a signing ceremony with Robert Todd Lincoln, Secretary of War.

When Virginia announced its decision, Lee resigned his commission and took command of the armed forces of the Commonwealth of Virginia, later becoming commander of the Army of Northern Virginia. He quickly established himself as an able commander, defeating a series of Union generals, until his final defeat and surrender at the McLean House. Because of this decision and subsequent performance, Lee was regarded as disloyal by most Union officers. The decision was made to appropriate a portion of Arlington as a graveyard for mostly Union dead.

George Washington Parke Custis acquired the land that now is Arlington National Cemetery in 1802, and began construction of Arlington House. The estate was passed down to Custis' only surviving child Mary Anna Custis Lee wife of Robert E. Lee, who was a West Point graduate and United States Army officer. When Fort Sumter was forced to surrender at the beginning of the American Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln offered Lee the command of the Federal army. Lee demurred, because he wanted to see how Virginia would decide.

Costco Hours

Costco Wholesale stores in Washington will begin collecting signatures next week to put an initiative on the ballot in November that would take the state out of the liquor business.

Initiative 1100 would allow businesses in good standing that currently sell beer and wine to also sell liquor, and it would eliminate price controls and allow volume discounts.

The push comes more than two years after Issaquah-based Costco lost most aspects of a court battle to change the state’s beer- and wine-distribution rules.  Several legislative efforts aimed at overhauling the system failed to make headway.

The Washington Beer & Wine Wholesalers Association does not have an official position on the initiative, but that group’s executive director personally supports keeping the current regulatory system.

Small grocery stores may like the idea of selling liquor but some say Initiative 1100 would price the smaller stores out of business.

Others are concerned that the state needs the revenue generated by its liquor stores, about $655 million in fiscal 2008 and 2009. The state runs more than 160 stores, and an additional 155 are owned by businesses that contract with the state.

Costco officials say the state could raise liquor taxes to make up for that loss.

To make the November ballot, the initiative needs almost 242,000 signatures by July 2.

Gettysburg Address

What is the Gettysburg Address? The Gettysburg Address was a speech by U.S. President Abraham Lincoln, delivered after the Civil War, to unify the nation under a "new birth of freedom."

The speech began with the phrase “Four score and seven years ago,” which highlighted the American Revolution and examined the core principles of the United States that the “government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”

The exact wording of the Gettysburg Address is unknown because several different manuscripts exist and differ widely from versions published in newspapers.

Americans share interest in the Gettysburg Address during Memorial Day, which commemorates U.S. men and women who died while serving in the military - the search term is currently ranked 13 on Google Trends.

Quebec Fires

Montreal, Quebec, Canada (AHN) - Quebec firefighters blamed the hot, dry and windy weather for keeping the flames that has hit different forests across the province blazing. The bulk of the forest fires are located near La Tuque, which is 300 kilometers northwest of Montreal.

While none of the nearby residents are at risk since those who live in the blazes’ vicinity had been evacuated, other residents complained of heavy smoke and ash which were drifting toward the Quebec-Montreal corridor.

According to a spokesman of Quebec’s Forest Fire Protection Agency, as of Sunday afternoon, there are 52 ongoing forest fires ranging in size from one to 40,000 hectares. About 90,000 hectares have been razed so far.

The Maine Forest Service has sent 21 firefighters to Quebec to help battle the forest fires. Manitoba also sent two water bombers.

Israel News

The first time I met Benjamin Netanyahu was on Sept. 9, 2002, in the lobby of a Montreal hotel. The former Israeli prime minister (as he then was) and his entourage had just retreated from Concordia University, where violent street protesters screaming slogans in Arabic had shut down his scheduled speech. While aides jabbered into cellphones, trying (unsuccessfully) to arrange another venue, Mr. Netanyahu wondered aloud to me and a half dozen other hangers-on how a democracy such as Canada had permitted a street mob to shut down a major speaking event. Ominous comparisons were made to Europe, where similarly ugly scenes had become common in the wake of Israel’s 2002 West Bank  offensive.

Seven years later, as Mr. Netanyahu visits Canada once again, everything has changed.

The Israeli Prime Minister retains clear memories of his 2002 trip: He still speaks ruefully of the “Concordia-Berkeley axis” of bien-pensant Western opinion that seizes any pretext to attack Israel. But the Canadian end of that axis is much withered: As Mr. Netanyahu told Peter Mansbridge in an interview for yesterday’s edition of CBC’s The National, Stephen Harper has defined himself in Israeli eyes as a “champion” of the Jewish state’s right to defend itself. Some observers, Mr. Mansbridge noted, now describe Canada as Israel’s strongest supporter in the entire world.

Why Did I Get Married

One of the romantic films which were released in the year 2007 was “Why Did I Get Married?” Tyler Perry is included in the film being a leading character that is also known as the director, producer and writer of this outstanding movie. The story of this film was written with an inspiration from a play of the television whose name was also the same as the film.

Main cast of the film was included Keesha Sharp, Richard T. Jones, Michael Jai White, Tasha Smith, Sharon Leal, Malik Yoba, Jill Scott and the beautiful Janet Jackson. Lionsgate took the responsibility to release this film on 12th of October 2007 across the United States. Tyler Perry had directed and written three movies before directing, producing and writing this film “Why Did I Get Married?”

MPAA rated this movie for its sexual language, references and thematic material as PG-13. Most of the films produced and directed by Perry, featured the character “Madea” which is also known as the signature character of Perry but this film is one of those films which do not feature this character. There are only three such films. Gross earning recorded for this within the first week of its release was USD $21.4 million as it was released across the Canada and United States in around 7,105 theaters.

“Why Did I Get Married” took number 1 position in the box office’s ranking of the films in the first week of its release but dropped down to number 2 position in the second week but still managed to earn a gross profit of USD $12.1 million. It is really a must watch movie.

Operation Petticoat

Operation Petticoat - Watch Operation Petticoat Streaming Movie Online.Cary Grant is cast as the commander of the Sea Tiger, a sub held together by a lick and a promise. Tony Curtis is cast as Lt Lop Holden. He was assigned sea duty as a punishment, and is very outside of his element. Since the country is at war, supplies are very scarce, and Holden discovers that he does have a talent in being a thief. If they can’t fetch a requisition filled, Mr. Holden can score it. This crew has one catastrophe after another, and then they bag stuck with team of nurses that are stranded. This is a hilarious movie that will fabricate you laugh out loud. The cast is respectable, and not impartial the talent of Grant and Curtis, but all the supporting players.

Cary Grant is the Commander of the Sea Tiger, a submarine with more problems than crew members.
His troubles launch when the sub sinks before even leaving the harbor during a Japanese raid. Commander Sherman (Grant) and his men inaugurate working to repair and bring up their beloved sub despite the fact that their requisition orders rarely are filled.

Due to the fact that some of his men were reassigned to other duties after the raid, Sherman is granted some “replacement’s”–enter Lt. Nicholas Holden (Tony Curtis) .

Holden is in the Navy not for the purpose of country but for the uniform so he can sign his rich girlfriend encourage home. Since he is no longer winning the rumba championships with the Admiral’s wife he must resolve into a role on the Sea Tiger–scavenging for items to repair the sub.
Operation Petticoat - Watch Operation Petticoat Movie Online
With novel and inventive ways of obtaining supplies (taking the wall from headquarters and stealing supplies from beneath the noses of MP’s) the Sea Tiger once again becomes sea worthy–barely.

None of the scavenging pain Crop Holden causes Commander Sherman can even compare to the current passengers he brings aboard: a crew of female doctors, pregnant women and goats.

Cary Grant is charming as ever and deals with the many, many problems and situations thrown at him in such droll ways. Tony Curtis is equally charming and lends very mighty to this film. The supporting cast can be likened to the “Down Periscope” crew of 1959. Each character brings something unusual and fresh to the storyline.

Bushido Brown

I saw Fullerton's Bushido spirit in full display in te Indians valiant effort in a 12-11 defeat to La Habra last week. Bushido translates to "The way of the warrior." It's the Samurai code.

Win or lose, these Fullerton girls go down fighting. These girls have no ounce of quit in them.

In the top of the fourth, Monique Martinez got a one-out single and Ellen Bock drew a two-out walk. Donree Greer stepped up and drilled a three-run homer  over the fence in right-center field.

Just like that we have a brand new ballgame. Aliso Niguel 3, Fullerton 3.

In the bottom of the fourth, Madison Wedel and Eden Slone got back-to-back one-out singles for the Wolverines. With two outs Zharde Sellona hit a grounder that was misplayed by Fullerton's shortstop and Wedel came around to score.

Guess who's up? That's right, "The Brown Bomber" herself, Mandy Gardner. Sellona stole second to put runners on second and third, so Fullerton wisely walked Gardner to load the bases.

The bases are juiced with two outs for Dionne Anderson, who singled up the middle to drive in two runs.

Just like that Aliso Niguel has its three-run lead back. The Wolverines lead, 6-3. Make that 9-3.

The Indians brought in Vanessa Monatno to relieve Lindsey Rains. Marissa Gilbuena belted a three-run homer to left-center field and Aliso Niguel is up 9-3.

Aliso Niguel 9, Fullerton 3 after four innings.

Legally Blondes

After checking the Google trending topics for tonight, I was surprised to see "Legally Blondes" right up there with current events. Why was this spinoff of Reese Witherspoon's hit movie, technically Legally Blonde 3, trending one year after its debut? The answer? Justin Bieber.

Tonight on twitter the teen pop sensation, Justin Bieber, tweeted:"Wow that was the longest flight eveerrrrr. Atleast I caught some zzz and watched legally blonde 1 and 2 haahahaah"

Apparently Bieber holds the news world in his hand, controlled by his twitter acount. Legally Blondes is the third installment of the Legally Blonde franchise; however, the previous star of the movie, Reese Witherspoon, became the director and producer. The movie premiered on the Disney and ABC Family channel...a sign that it was not a high-quality movie targeting adults. It centered around the British twin cousins of Elle Woods, Reese Witherspoon's past character. The rest of the plot is a fluffy teen drama that hollowly recreates past scenes in the movies.

It's interesting how the whim of a 16 year old celebrity can instantly set the internet world abuzz, propelling a dull movie to one of the most searched topics on the internet. I guess this just goes to show the power of celebrity influence.

Memorial Day Poems

As I referenced in another post, Memorial Day commemorates the men and women who serve and have served our country in the armed forces. So while we are chowing down on burgers and beer this weekend, let's all take a moment of reflection to respect what Memorial Day is all about.

There have been several poems written about Memorial Day. Here is one I found from titled "Facing It" by Yusef Komunyakaa, a veteran of the Vietnam War. More poems can be found here at the Huffington Post.

My black face fades,
hiding inside the black granite.
I said I wouldn't,
dammit: No tears.
I'm stone. I'm flesh.
My clouded reflection eyes me
like a bird of prey, the profile of night
slanted against morning. I turn
this way--the stone lets me go.
I turn that way--I'm inside
the Vietnam Veterans Memorial
again, depending on the light
to make a difference.
I go down the 58,022 names,
half-expecting to find
my own in letters like smoke.
I touch the name Andrew Johnson;
I see the booby trap's white flash.
Names shimmer on a woman's blouse
but when she walks away
the names stay on the wall.
Brushstrokes flash, a red bird's
wings cutting across my stare.
The sky. A plane in the sky.
A white vet's image floats
closer to me, then his pale eyes
look through mine. I'm a window.
He's lost his right arm
inside the stone. In the black mirror
a woman's trying to erase names:
No, she's brushing a boy's hair.

Rashad vs. Rampage Results

Yesterday was the day, when the main event of UFC-114 between Evans and Jackson took place in the Grand Arena within Las Vegas. Now as the match between the both Evans and Rampage has now ended, all of the lovers of Boxing and especially this match are asking or querying about the Rampage Jackson Vs Rashad Evans results. Yes the Rampage Jackson Vs Rashad Evans results are all that we are bothered with at this moment in time.

So ladies and gentleman for you information let me present to you the Rampage Jackson Vs Rashad Evans results, as per to the results of the fight between the two, Evan have in reality won the match.

When last night we were presenting the preview of the fight, all people who commented on our blog posts have the same sort of an opinion that Rampage will actually win the fight and will give a really tough time to

Evans. This sort of a thing did not actually materialize cause as the Rampage Jackson Vs Rashad Evans results it was Rashad at the end who won on by an unanimous decision by the judges and took the winning title.

What can one person say but feel sorry for Rampage for his unsuccessful efforts towards getting a UFC-114 pass and winning the fight between the two, but what here we can say to him is that don’t lose hope, it’s not the end of the road for you. So wait and prepare for another fight and you will win this time round.

Jones Beach

Thousands of people gather around Jones Beach in Wantagh, New York (Long Island) for the Jones Beach Air Show 2010.

Parking lots at Jones Beach were overflowing with a crowd of nearly 150,000 as the aircrafts showcase their exhibition on the clear skies of New York.

Lt. Col. John Klatt of the Air National Guard is one of those who perform death-defying stunts in the sky. “I’ve always enjoyed airplanes,” says Klatt, who began flying at 17. “My dad used to take me to air shows as a kid and I was always excited about it.”

People were so enthusiastic about what they’re watching. Some were a bit nervous and scared, “One particular aircraft looked like it was going to fall, but I’m glad it’s not me up there, I’d have a head ache and a stomach ache,” said Sara Morrison, a beachgoer.

The Jones Beach Air Show is part of the celebration of Memorial Day. This is one way of remembering and honoring the military and the veterans who have given America their service.

This weekend’s NASCAR race, the Coca Cola 600, is set to kick off today at 5:45 pm ET from Charlotte Motor Speedway. This is the longest race in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series of races. Grabbing the pole for today’s race is Ryan Newman. He will be followed by Kurt Busch, Martin Truex Jr., Kasey Kahne, and Jimmy Johnson to round out the top five.

Current Sprint Cup Series point’s leader Kevin Harvick will be starting 23rd today at the Coca Cola 600. He has a 69 point lead over second place driver Kyle Busch. If Harvick hopes to keep his lead in the standings then he will need to move up in today’s race. Jimmy Johnson who was the point’s leader earlier in the season has had some less than favorable results in his past few races and hopes to turn things around today.

Last years Coca Cola 600 winner David Reutimann will be starting sixth today. Today’s race is set to start later in the day as the Indy 500 is also being run today. In the past some drivers have partaken in both races, however this has not happened since 2004. Get ready to sit back and enjoy a full day of car racing and see who captures the checkered flags.

BP Top Kill

The amount of oil spilled by BP Plc's blown-out Gulf of Mexico well has eclipsed the 1989 Exxon Valdez disaster, and could be flowing at a rate nearly four times BP's recent estimates, according to findings of a U.S. government expert panel released on Thursday.

On May 17, there were at least 130,000 barrels of oil on the surface of the Gulf of Mexico, and a similar amount had been skimmed off the surface or evaporated, according to a panel of government scientists known as the Flow Rate Technical Group.

The findings, made public by U.S. Geological Survey Director Marcia McNutt, confirm that more oil has been spilled from BP's leaking well than the estimated 257,000 barrels that fouled Alaska's Prince William Sound by the grounding of the Exxon Valdez tanker.

If the panel's calculations are accurate, a total of at least 260,000 barrels of oil had spilled into the ocean by May 17.

The high-end estimate of oil on the water that day was 270,000 barrels, with a similar amount contained or evaporated, the panel found.

McNutt declined to confirm that the BP spill has eclipsed the Exxon Valdez, but she did not dispute it.

"This is obviously a very, very significant environmental disaster and I think with the numbers I've given you, you can do the math," McNutt said.

The team's best estimate for the amount of oil pouring from the well is 12,000-19,000 barrels per day, though one of three measurement methods the team used returned a high-end rate of 25,000 barrels per day, McNutt said.

Assuming the well has flowed 12,000 barrels (504,000 gallons/1.9 million liters) a day since April 20 -- the day the Deepwater Horizon rig exploded -- the total amount of oil released by the well is 444,000 barrels (18.65 million gallons/70.59 million liters), nearly twice the amount from Exxon Valdez.

A BP spokesman declined to comment on the government's estimate.

The government's lowest estimate is over twice the estimate repeatedly cited by BP officials of about 5,000 barrels (210,000 gallons/795,000 liters), though company officials have said the estimate is unreliable.

Justine Henin

PARIS (AP) — Four-time champion Justine Henin has advanced to the fourth round of the French Open by beating Maria Sharapova 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.

The two former No. 1s played the final set Sunday after the match was suspended late Saturday because of darkness. Henin fell behind 0-2, love-40, but overcame four break points to hold, and she soon led 4-2.

The third-round victory extends Henin's winning streak at Roland Garros to 24 matches. The match was the first between the two rivals since Henin spent 20 months in retirement before mounting a career comeback this year.

On a windy, chilly, damp afternoon, the hitting was worthy of a final. Both players took ferocious swings from the baseline and charged forward when they had the chance.

Nick Swardson

Though we're still waiting for another lead role to be cast alongside Aziz Ansari for Ruben Fleischer's action comedy 30 Minutes or Less, the supporting cast is continuing to fill out as THR  reports Michael Pena (Crash, Observe and Report) and Nick Swardson (Blades of Glory, "Reno 911!") have joined the cast. The two join Danny McBride in a couple of small but key roles. While McBride is a thug looking to score some money, Swardson will play his best friend with Pena plays a tattoo riddled assassin in the story of a history teacher (Ansari) and a pizza-delivery man who're forced to rob a bank when one is strapped to a bomb vest.

Funnily enough, Pena, McBride and Ansari all had parts in Jody Hill's dark comedy Observe and Report. So far the cast is shaping up to be a great assembly of talent for what will hopefully be a badass follow-up for Fleischer who made a huge splash with last year's surprise hit Zombieland. There's obviously some potential greatness stirring in this comedy since this was the project Fleischer landed after having plenty of projects tossed his way because of Zombieland. Hopefully the director doesn't need zombies, Woody Harrelson and a Bill Murray cameo to make a solid movie. Stay tuned as there's surely more casting for this comedy on deck.

Lakers Vs. Suns Game 6

It was a fantastic game, and I was really craving a finish like that after the Celtics-Magic blowout last night. It was a pretty well played game, and it was apparent why the Los Angeles Lakers are going to the NBA Finals.

The Lakers set their minds to stopping Steve Nash and Amar'e Stoudemire, and they basically accomplished their goal. Nash had a tough time navigating the Lakers' defense, and left his feet a few times with nowhere to pass. With the exception of a couple dunks in the second half, Stoudemire's shots were contested by as many as three players at a time. He looked completely out of sync until he started getting to the free throw line, but by then it was almost too little too late.

As Doug Collins mentioned a few times, the turning point of the game was when Sasha Vujacic (un)intentionally hit Goran Dragic in the face after Dragic was talking some smack after a jump shot. This got the Suns and the crowd at U.S. Airways Center back into the game, which created momentum until the last couple minutes of the fourth quarter. Alvin Gentry did the right thing by leaving Dragic in as long as he did, even though Nash is the face of the franchise.

But when push came to shove, Kobe Bryant tapped Gentry on the side after making a rediculously tough jump shot over Grant Hill and Channing Frye. As he tends to do, he canned clutch jumper after clutch jumper with 2-4 hands in his face, and even a running one hander from 18 feet away. The Suns showed a lot of playoff toughness, but in the end, the better team moved on to the Finals.

Meanwhile Jackson, after losing to Rua in 2005, has gone on to win 8 out of his following 9 fights. He is also a wrestler of note, with distinctive style in slams but sometimes his dedication to the gym has been in doubt. However if he’s on top of his game there’s nobody with more motivation than Rampage Jackson.

Dennis Hopper

Dennis Hopper, whose portrayals of drug-addled, often deranged misfits in the landmark films “Easy Rider,” “Apocalypse Now” and “Blue Velvet” drew on his early out-of-control experiences as part of a new generation of Hollywood rebel, died at his home in Venice, Calif., on Saturday. He was 74.

According to the Times obituary written by Edward Wyatt, Mr. Hopper died from complications of prostate cancer. His death was first reported by Reuters.

Mr. Hopper, who said he stopped drinking and using drugs in the mid-1980s, followed that change with a tireless phase of his career in which he claimed to have turned down no parts. His credits include at least  six films released in 2008 and at least 25 over the past 10 years.

Most recently, Mr. Hopper starred in the television series “Crash,” an adaptation of the Oscar-winning film of the same title. Produced for the Starz cable channel, the show had Mr. Hopper portraying a music producer unhinged by years of drug use. During a promotional tour last fall for that series, he fell ill; shortly thereafter, he began a new round of treatments for prostate cancer, which he said was first diagnosed a decade ago.

Inverting a famous line of dialogue spoken by Peter Fonda in “Easy Rider,” Manohla Dargis wrote of Mr. Hopper in The New York Times:

Dennis Hopper — actor, filmmaker, photographer, art collector, world-class burnout, first-rate survivor — never blew it. Unlike the villains and freaks he has played over the decades — the psycho with the mommy complex in “Blue Velvet,” the mad bomber with the grudge in “Speed” — he has made it through the good, the bad and some spectacularly terrible times. He rode out the golden age of Hollywood by roaring into a new movie era with “Easy Rider.” He hung out with James Dean, played Elizabeth Taylor’s son, acted for Quentin Tarantino. He has been rich and infamous, lost and found, the next big thing, the last man standing.

Kendry Morales

Kendry Morales took a leap toward home plate and all of a sudden, a jubilant trip around the bases turned into a deflating trip to the disabled list.

Morales broke his left leg after hitting a game-ending grand slam in the 10th inning of the Los Angeles Angels' 5-1 victory against Seattle on Saturday.

Morales landed awkwardly when he jumped on home plate and twisted his left ankle. He had to be carted off the field and taken to the hospital. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list.

"It'll change the way we celebrate," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said before the extent of Morales' injury was known. "It sure was exciting, but you always wonder if it's an accident waiting to happen. This is definitely unfortunate. We've just got to wait and see what we're dealing with. We'll know more information as the night moves on."

"It's definitely not the mood we would expect in the clubhouse after a win, but when something like  that happens, it's definitely disturbing," he said. "These guys all feel bad about what happened, but you've got to pick up the pieces and get ready to play tomorrow. It's a lesson for all of us."

A smiling Morales threw down his helmet a few steps from the plate, took a hop and then jumped toward the plate as teammates began to pat him on the head. Morales quickly went down and grimaced as he rolled onto his back. He lay on the ground for at least 10 minutes and waved his arms to the cheering fans as he was driven away.

"Anytime you have a walk-off hit, everybody celebrates at home plate," said starting pitcher Jered Weaver, who was icing his arm while watching the situation unfold on television. "It was just a fluke thing. You never want to see anything like that happen to a guy like that who's having a great start to the season – or anybody for that matter. Hopefully it's not as serious as we think, but we're going to have to deal with it."

"Obviously, we're going to have to change the way we go about celebrating something like that," he said.

Players who hit game-winning home runs often toss off their batting helmets as they head home, hoping their teammates won't pat them too hard on the head during wild celebrations.

UFC 114 Live Stream Free

You likely won't be able to watch UFC 114 live stream free, but you can watch UFC 114 online by following the evening's full slate of fights on either UFC.com or BleacherReport.com.

Due to the pay-per-view nature of the event, finding live streaming is extremely unlikely; finding it free might be darn near impossible. There are many rules in place prohibiting such activity - since the pay-per-view moneys are of the utmost importance to those involved - and should someone find a way to get around them and post live video online, you'd likely be watching an illegal feed.

But you can follow along nonetheless, even if you don't want to dial up the pay-per-view or hoof it down to the local sports bar. Both UFC.com and BleacherReport.com are offering some variety of live updates, with Bleacher Report providing live blogging and post-fight results almost as fast as they happen.

So far, in the marquee showdowns, John Hathaway defeated Diego Sanchez by unanimous decision, and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira defeated Jason Brilz amid a mild swirl of controversy. Nogueira won via decision, with two judges awarding him the victory and one giving it to Brilz, but according to Bleacher Report blogger Joshua Carey, the crowd booed lustily as they felt Brilz was the winner.

Only two matches remain before Rampage Jackson and Rashad Evans take to the ring, so stay tuned to Bleacher Report for updates and reaction throughout the evening.

Roy Halladay

Stoic as always, Roy Halladay's expression never changed.

Until the end, that is.

Until there was history – a perfect game, the marquee performance of his All-Star career.

The Philadelphia Phillies' ace threw the 20th perfect game in major league history, beating the Florida Marlins 1-0 on Saturday night.

At 9:23 p.m., when he got pinch-hitter Ronny Paulino to hit a grounder to third for the 27th out, only then could Halladay bask in his moment – breaking into a big smile and wrapping his arms around catcher Carlos Ruiz before disappearing in a joyous, jumping gray-and-red mob of teammates.

"It's never something that you think is possible," Halladay said. "Really, once I got the two outs, I felt like I had a chance. You're always aware of it. It's not something that you expect."

It was the second perfect game in the majors this month alone, unheralded Dallas Braden doing it for Oakland against Tampa Bay on May 9. It's the first time in the modern era that there were a pair of perfectos in the same season – Colorado's Ubaldo Jimenez threw a no-hitter, too, in April.

Halladay struck out 11, and was cheered by a crowd of 25,086 throughout much of the night. Another fan called later – Vice President Joe Biden dialed up the Phillies' clubhouse to offer his congratulations when it was over.

"Early in my bullpen I was hitting spots more than I have been. I felt like I just carried that out there," Halladay said.

Buster Posey

The Giants have recalled top prospect Buster Posey from Triple-A, reports Andrew Baggarly of The Mercury News. The move has been confirmed by both Ed Price of AOL FanHouse and ESPN's Buster Olney.

"When we bring him here, we want to make sure he’s on the field at least five days a week," said GM Brian Sabean. It's likely that Posey will man first while giving Bengie Molina the occasional day off behind the plate. The 23-year-old crushed the minors this year, hitting .349/.442/.552 in 208 plate appearances, playing some first base in addition to his usual catching duties.

Even though San Francisco waited until the end of May to recall Posey, he's on track to be a Super Two after the 2012 thanks to the month's worth of service time he accrued last September. That could change if the Giants send him back to the minors. Despite being a high profile college player, Posey did not receive a major league contract as the fifth overall pick in 2008, instead taking a $6.2MM bonus (the second largest in draft history) up front.
