Jack Johnson at Santa Monica Pier

Jack Johnson and a wave-adjacent concert.  Yeah. Kind of gives peanut butter and jelly a run for their perfect-pairing money.

The singer-songwriter is putting a free Pacific-close show at the Santa Monica Pier on Monday, May 24, but here's the feel-good twist: He's thanking volunteers for participating in a beach clean-up day.

Every volunteer who helped out in a two-hour beach-sweep on May 22 got a ticket. Plus, others have won tickets through local radio stations and @jackjohnson and @brushfire on Twitter. (We liked the call for fans to send in a pic of their most-loved record store.)

Even if you're not going to the show, you can pick up the strummer's new album on Tuesday, June 1. First day of June is very Jack Johnson to us. If flip-flops had a holiday, it would probably be that summer's-ahead day.

Also very Jack Johnson: Asking fans to join together and lend a hand. Maybe other rockers can follow suit? Volunteer and then get treated to a free show? We hear this happening from time to time, but "time to time" isn't often enough.
