GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Despite cold and windy weather, thousands of runners laced up for the Fifth Third River Bank Run through downtown Grand Rapids on Saturday morning.
Arizona's Andrew Carlson didn't let the cold weather slow him down as he won the 25k race in the Fifth Third River Bank Run through downtown Grand Rapids.
Rockford's Jason Hartmann finished in fourth place.
A record number of runners -- 21,337 -- registered for the 33rd annual event. The streets began filling with cars and runners around 6 a.m.
Event organizers are ready for whatever may come their way, race director Kristin Aidif said.
Saturday's schedule included: a 5K, 10K and 25K run, a 5K community walk, and 25K wheelchair and handcycle races.
