Cody Zeller

Cody Zeller: Hey, guess what?  If you didn’t know already Cody Zeller committed to Indiana University today.  As a student, I’m more relieved than I am excited about his decision, but today we learned a lot about Indiana basketball.

We learned…

    * Coach Crean can recruit.  All the questions questioning whether Crean could recruit in-state players or big men have now been answered.
    * Cook Hall is paying dividends.  How many times did Zeller mention the facilities at IU, in particular Cook Hall?
    * The players that play at IU are good kids.  One deciding factor for Zeller was the guys on the team and the coaches.  This is a tribute to Indiana’s current players, and to Coach Crean for building a program with likeable players.
    * After this year Purdue returns to reality and becomes second fiddle in Indiana once again.
    * Kevin “Yogi” Ferrell will soon commit to Indiana.
    * Cam Newton and Cecil Newton are idiots.  Oh sorry that has nothing to do with Indiana, but still.
    * It is now a question of when, whether than if, the Hoosier will return to the front stage of college basketball.
    * Coach Crean is on track to go down as one of the greatest Indiana coaches of all time.
    * The Indiana fans that have suffered through this tough time have a reason to pat themselves on the back.  No one will ever say IU has bandwagon fans.

It was a good day for IU basketball, but I’m glad it’s over.  All the “I heard…” or “I think” speculation is over and now IU can concentrate on the season at hand.  I still have high expectations for this year’s team, but signing Zeller may cause Assembly Hall to be all that more raucous this year.
