Ferrari 458

Ferrari 458:The Ferrari 458 Italia, the Italian car manufacturer's latest model, might just be cursed. Ten of the exceedingly expensive vehicles have crashed in the past month, according to reports on Tuesday.

Six Ferrari 458 Italias have been involved in accidents, three caught on fire, and one was destroyed in a fire while it was being stored innocently in a warehouse.

Making its debut last September, the $260,000 supercar can accelerate from zero to 60 miles per hour in a little over three seconds, and has a top speed in excess of 200 miles per hour.

Faulty design has been ruled out as the cause of the string of accidents, and appears to be just a streak of bad luck, the Daily Telegraph newspaper reported.

Ferrari said they are investigating the cause of the fires and are investigating each incident separately.

A website www.wreckedexotics.com was recently launched, providing photos and details of crashes and mishaps involving cars that cost more than $200,000.

"The 458 Italia is Ferrari's latest high-production vehicle so I knew there would be many crashes but I didn't expect there to be so many so soon,” the website’s founder Greg Carlson told the Telegraph.

"It's not uncommon for new exotic models to start off with a few crashes – owners are getting the feel for the new car," he said. "Some are taking it beyond their skill level, although the 458 does have a higher than normal crash count so far."

For example, in a 458 crash in Wroclaw, Poland last month, the driver swerved to avoid hitting another vehicle but slammed into a van.
