William Wesley is an NBA power broker. In regular people speak, that means he’s the guy with all the people crowded around him at a party listening to his stories. Perhaps a bit pushy. Then again, I don’t know the guy.
Regardless, the latest web rumors have him putting together a deal that would couple current University of Kentucky men’s basketball coach John Calipari, with NBA superstar LeBron James to go to a team together (The Chicago Bulls), for some NBA dominance.
Oh, sure–it could happen. Still. The rumors…who starts these things?
Personally, I wish it were true. I think LeBron in Chicago would create an interesting dynamic. He could come into work daily, and pass the statue of the player that he’ll never be as good as. He’d get to play with the fellow young talents Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah and finally play with an actual point guard in Kirk Hinrich–this could all make for an interesting mix. But here’s the problem–if coach Calipari is part of this supposed package. Um, well, Cal can’t win the big one, Chicago fans.
Which is why I, as a die-hard Kentucky basketball fan, I want him out of Kentucky. I don’t care that he brings his one-and-done top recruits on an annual basis–he’s limited as a coach.
His teams can’t shoot free throws, they collapse fundamentally in big games, they play one style, they aren’t adept at adaptation and when met with comparable opposition, he never looks like he knows what to do. Which is why, he needs to take the check and move on to the NBA. You have my blessing, Coach Cal. Tag team with Bron Bron, and head on over to Chi-town.
In terms of William Wesley pushing “LeCal” to the masses? It would be one of the biggest and most interesting moves in professional sports history. Here’s to my subjective hope.
