Rentschler Field

The U.S. men's soccer team plays the Czech Republic tonight at 8 at Rentschler Field in the first of two Send-Off Series matches before departing for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa in June. The game is on ESPN. The national team also plays Turkey in Philadelphia on Saturday. Twenty-two youths from the East Hartford Soccer Club will be escorting soccer players onto the field at Rentschler as part of a program sponsored by McDonald's  and the U.S. Soccer Federation. . The Rentschler parking lots will open at 4 p.m., and tailgaiting before the game is permitted. Gates will open to enter the stadium at 6 p.m. . . . Turkey and Northern Ireland play in an exhibition soccer match Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Veterans Stadium in Willow Brook Park in New Britain.

Murphy Leads Palmer Cup

Brian Murphy of Brooklawn Country Club opened with a 2-under-par 69 Monday and has a two-shot lead over Tom McCarthy of Twin Hills in the Russell C. Palmer Cup at Rolling Hills CC in Wilton. The 54-hole event concludes with two rounds today. Forty players who shot 78 or better made the cut.
