Daffy s

Needless to say Oprah's May 13 show about Eclipse with actors Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner and Dakota Fanning is a hot topic.  It's only natural that "Daffy s" is its only serious competition.

I'm a little confused as to how a movie about the obscure Eclipse Pen company could attract as much attention as it seems to have done but then, as this gallery of pictures of Eclipse products shows, they made some attractive pens.  It may be that the cast of the upcoming Eclipse has also appeared in the teen vampire Twilight series and their fans are interested in anything in which they appear.  While I prefer Parker, Sheaffer, Moore, and Pelikan among classic fountain pen manufacturers, the Eclipse line was interesting.  All of the models shown below were well known for their ability to write with blood without clogging.

I'm particularly fond of the "cracked ice" finish model shown to the left.

Daffy s is a different matter.  Naturally the interesting part is the "s" with the space before it.  It may be that some people find the apostrophe offensive or it's possible that it's an excerpt from one of G. W. Bush's hand written speech notes.  Regardless, Google offers many possible interpretations.  Here are a few:

   1. Daffy's, a store that claims to offer high fashion at low prices.  I don't believe they carry fountain pens or calligraphy blood though.  They may have snack blood in the impulse racks at the checkstands.  The models in the pictures do look a bit on the epicene side.
   2. Daffy's Pet Soup Kitchen, an animal rescue site.
   3. Daffy Duck, the Warner Brothers star voiced by the immortal Mel Blanc.  I've always believed that Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Elmer Fudd, and Porky Pig were real.  I'm not so sure about Tweety, Sylvester, Pepe le Pew and some of the others.

As to why the term "daffy s" is so interesting to so many, I'm not sure but it's a stimulating little puzzle nonetheless.

Here's a video of the trailer from the Twilight movie coming out in mid-summer.  I've included it to pander to fans.

Here's a video I find much more interesting. It shows what writing with a Mabie-Todd Swan fountain pen, a brand well known for it's flexible nibs, is like. Unfortunately it doesn't go into the pen's performance when filled with blood.
