Almost Famous

AS you are reading this I am in the midst of Rosemount Australian Fashion Week madness.

But while I am writing this, I have no idea what I am in for.

I have been told it will be 15-hour days, non-stop running between shows and media rooms, and the queues for the popular shows that can have you wait for up to 40 minutes.

But I defy the critics and the cynics, this is going to be the best week of my life  besides the week I had my son  if not the most anticipated.

I have spent the past few weeks searching street-style blogs for outfit ideas then rummaging through my closet to see which ones I can combine for fashion week.

I've been fairly successful actually and I don't think I gave my wardrobe enough credit.

It is quite amazing how much clothing, vintage especially, I have collected over the years.

My husband and I are vintage mad and have travelled extensively through America, his native country of origin, to find them.

We love nothing more than hitting the road for a treasure hunt, scouring the country's op shops and antique stores.

There's a real rush you get from finding rare, valuable, one-of-a-kind finds that can't be bought in mainstream fashion outlets.

It's the thrill of the chase and we'd do it for a living if we could.

On the weekend we joined our friends Dave and Sonia from Bang Doll Vintage boutique on a road trip to Bangalow and Lismore and I found me some treasure, aye!

I found a black velvet 3/4 length jacket with a faux fur cream collar and sleeves.

My second score was an original pair of Lolita heart-shaped glasses from the '70s with purple rose-coloured lenses.

Think Kate Hudson in Almost Famous.

That'll be me, walking off the Sydney airport tarmac to my first show.
