According to sources such as weather.com, the famous Opryland Hotel had to be evacuated due to the Nashville Tennessee flooding. The Cumberland River flooding has caused the river to rise to record levels, resulting in tragic deaths and destruction to many structures. Rising waters around the Opryland Hotel forced approximately 1,500 guests to spend the night at a high school rather than the upscale hotel in the heart of country music's Nashville, TN. According to a press release, the guests were brought to nearby shelter around 8PM Central Time, long before the levees were breached.
The Opryland Hotel is owned by Gaylord Entertainment (NYSE: GET). The following flood news update is provided on the Gaylord Hotels website:
"Due to the City of Nashville's declared "State of Emergency" because of the historic flooding in the area, Gaylord Opryland is not taking any overnight reservations for the next few weeks. As soon as more information is available from authorities, we will post an update as to when we will be accepting hotel reservations. Thank you very much for your understanding of this unfortunate situation resulting from this natural disaster."
It appears that the Opryland hotel will need some time to recover from the recent flooding damages as will many other areas in Tennessee and nearby Mississippi as well. The Gaylord company also notes in its press release that they will be deciding the best way to arrange for the various events booked over the next several months. However, they have stated that right now the safety of all guests and employees is priority number one.
