SELMER, TN (WMC-TV) – Next March will mark five years since Mary Winkler shot and killed her preacher husband Matthew Winkler inside their church-owned home in Selmer, Tennessee. The crime still brings Winkler to tears.
“I don’t think you ever get used to that,” Winkler said, sobbing.
Winkler was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter. She claimed during her trial that her husband berated her and made her wear trashy clothes.
During an exclusive interview with Dateline NBC’s Keith Morrison, Winkler alleged her husband struck her. She recalled a time she tried to play it off.
