Green Lantern Trailer

DC Comics’ Green Lantern is a space-regulating superhero whose time has come, but the first full trailer for his feature film debut shows he’s still got some work to do, especially on that goofy glowing costume.
That said, director Martin Campbell’s Green Lantern, touching down June 2011, smells like cash.
For one, actor Ryan Reynolds seems to fit the role nicely enough, although his baby-face good looks differ from the rougher edges of the comic’s Hal Jordan. His ebullience is miles away from Jordan’s grave attitude and approach, which has filled the pages of cosmologically catastrophic comics series like Blackest Night and Sinestro Corps War. But that will work to Reynolds’ advantage when it comes to the mallrats buying tickets to Green Lantern, who have zero idea that Jordan is just one of many emerald space-cops that have inhabited DC Comics’ superhero. (Don’t even ask about Guy Gardner.)
Then there is the fact that Reynolds is married to Scarlett Johansson, who played Black Widow in the popcorny Iron Man 2. That ought to help pull in ticket-buyers who know zero about comics or power rings.
More good news: Green Lantern’s full trailer shows off the Lantern Corps‘ home planet Oa, as well as its other space soldiers and their guardian leaders. That’s a nice change of pace from Iron Man 2’s earthbound drama. The only bad news is that Green Lantern looks spiked with cheese, especially for comics diehards who might clamor for more depth and seriousness. But that’s to be expected when beloved comic book characters make the blockbuster jump to Hollywood.
