Halliburton

Next Tuesday Americans will be deciding whether to hand over even more of our government to corporations that have been plundering America -- such as Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan Chase, Citibank, Wellpoint insurance, Massey Energy, and Halliburton, the giant oil services company.

Not every large corporation is irresponsible, of course, but plunderers that get away with it gain a competitive advantage over the more responsible, and thereby lead a race to the bottom.

Case in point: The staff of the presidential commission investigating the BP oil spill has just revealed that Halliburton executives knew the cement it was using to seal BP's Deepwater Horizon oil well was likely to be unstable but didn't tell BP or act on the information.

In a letter to the commission's seven members, the staff found that the failure of the cement was a key factor in the blowout that caused millions of barrels of crude oil to escape into the Gulf of Mexico. (Not the sole factor, of course; most of the blame for the disaster, says the staff, still rests with BP and Transocean, the company BP hired to drill the well.)

Halliburton has not exactly sat out this election. Last May, as Congress began investigating its role in the disaster, its political action committee made 14 contributions -- 13 to Republicans and one to a Democrat. Many were involved in the investigation; others had responsibility for overseeing oil drilling in the Gulf. It was the biggest donation month for Halliburton's PAC since September 2008.

Halliburton, in case you've forgotten, is not exactly a model citizen. It has evaded U.S. taxes and export bans through foreign subsidiaries; admitted to bribing foreign officials (a subsidiary paid $2.4 million to a Nigerian government official in exchange for favorable tax treatment); conceded in an internal memo (leaked to the Wall Street Journal) its cost controls for government contracts in Iraq were "antiquated" and its procurement "disorganized; was found by Pentagon auditors to have overcharged estimated at $27.4 million for meals served to American troops at five military bases in Iraq and Kuwait (in one camp billing for an average 42,000 meals a day but serving only 14,000).

The list of Halliburton's crimes goes on and on. And yet, somehow, Halliburton goes on piling up profits. How? Because of its deep connections to Washington.

Dick Cheney hadn't had any experience in the oil business when he became Halliburton's CEO in 1995. But he did have experience in government -- as George H.W. Bush's Secretary of Defense. And those military ties were invaluable to the company. Under his reign, Halliburton rose from 73rd to 18th on the Pentagon's list of top contractors, and the money garnered from government-sponsored agencies (such as the Overseas Private Investment Corporation and the Export-Import Bank) soared from $100 million in the five years prior to Cheney's arrival to $1.5 billion a few years after.

As vice president to George W. Bush, Cheney made sure Halliburton's stunning performance would continue (Cheney continued to receive checks from the company). According to congressional inquiries, Cheney's vice presidential office was instrumental in forcing the Environmental Protection Agency to remove sections on climate change from reports in 2002 and 2003 (a process Christine Todd Whitman, then the E.P.A. administrator, subsequently described as "brutal.") The Bush-Cheney administration also sought to control or censor congressional testimony about climate change by federal employees, and tampered with other reports in order to inject uncertainty into the climate debate.

Which brings us back to the Deepwater Horizon blowout. Halliburton's executives knew the cement it used to seal the well was filled with mud -- but Halliburton said nothing presumably because doing the job correctly would have cost too much. And, hell, Halliburton is in business to make money.

Halliburton isn't on the ballot next Tuesday, but it might as well be.

The Circus

Is that really a woman talking on a cellphone outside the premiere of Charlie Chaplin’s movie “The Circus” in 1928?

The video clip has quickly become a YouTube sensation with nearly 2 million views.

It seems someone filmed a street scene outside Hollywood’s famous Graumann’s Chinese Theatre opening of the movie more than 80 years ago, and a filmmaker recently noticed that in the clip a woman wearing a long coat and hat is holding her hand to her head as if grasping a cellphone. Toward the end of the clip, she turns to the camera briefly and appears to be talking.

Since there were no cellphones in 1928, she must be a time traveler, Internet conspiracy theorists conjecture. Or, as others have suggested, hearing aids were invented before 1928, so perhaps she is fiddling with the device.

One Internet sleuth even suggested it could be a hoax since her shadow seems lighter than the man walking in front of her. Fancy editing, perhaps?

The question is, however, if she is using a cellphone, just where are the cellphone transmission towers located?

Playstation Phone

A Sony PlayStation Phone with CDMA support has appeared in a photo, suggesting that Sony Ericsson's big surprise may be related to gaming.

Engadget has obtained a photo of the Sony PlayStation Phone, sporting Android and a slide-out game pad. Sony Ericsson recently promised its customers a big surprise, and the PlayStation Phone could possibly be it.

Sony PlayStation Phone According to Engadget, the Sony PlayStation Phone will be powered by a 1GHz Snapdragon processor of the MSM8655 kind, the kind of chipset Apple is rumored to be using in the iPhone 5. Courtesy of this chipset's dual-mode support, there's a chance of seeing the Sony PlayStation Phone being picked up by CDMA carriers.

As far as graphics is concerned, the Sony PlayStation Phone will offer the Adreno 205 GPU, promising up to 41M triangles/sec and 245M 3D pixels/sec. The Sony PlayStation Phone should also sport a high-resolution multi-touch capacitive touchscreen, HDMI port, 3.5mm audio jack, 512MB RAM, and a built-in camera with 720p HD video recording.

Given the Sony PlayStation Phone may go head to head with the iPhone 5 as far as graphics power is concerned, and the fact that Sony Ericsson plans to offer a dedicated marketplace for gaming, it looks like both Apple and Microsoft may get a serious Android competitor in that regard at some point in 2011 (we doubt the Sony PlayStation Phone would be widely available until at least mid-2011).

USAPA

To combat in-flight accidents caused by weary pilots, the FAA, pilot unions and the airlines had agreed to form an Aviation Rule Committee, which produced new guidelines covering topics including the number of hours pilots can fly in a given period and mandated rest time. According to USAPA, the committee asked for input from the labor force and airline management, but didn’t consider input from the academic world. This extra perspective would have brought a much-needed measure of scientific evaluation to the proceedings.

The pilots recently told a US House of Representatives subcommittee that the new guidelines, instead of producing a solution, would contribute to the problem of over-worked pilots.

"The proposed new rule allows airline managements to schedule crews for 25 percent more flight time in a day and for 60 percent more flight time in a week,” Mike Cleary, president of the association, said in a statement. “It simply defies common sense that, in the wake of a multitude of accidents where fatigue was a contributing factor, the FAA’s solution to reducing fatigue is to have pilots fly more hours in a given period of time.”

Cleary allowed that the proposed rules also have some positive aspects, but insisted that the findings need to be re-evaluated.

"We look forward to working with the FAA and legislators to create a rule that will genuinely fight fatigue and promote an increase in safety in air carrier transport,” Cleary said. “We are certainly not there yet.”

Arizona has executed Jeffrey Landrigan for a 1989 murder in the state’s first execution since 2007.

Landrigan died by injection at a state prison in Florence, Arizona at 10:29 p.m. Tuesday after a stay issued by a federal judge was lifted by the U.S. Supreme Court.

That stay was based on questions about the effectiveness of the state’s supply of an execution drug in short supply. Arizona obtained a supply of the sedative drug sodium thiopental from Great Britain.

Jeffrey Landrigan had been on death row since his 1990 conviction for murdering Chester Dyer of Phoenix in a killing that prosecutors said was part of a robbery.

Arizona’s last execution was of Robert Comer on May 22, 2007.

Oh well, the only thing I can add is it’s about time…that and who’s next? If that’s harsh, don’t tell me. Tell the families of these murderers.

The Lakers

LOS ANGELES - The Lakers' emotions ran high when the lights went down at Staples Center. They walked to center court one at a time, accepting a gaudy ring before saying something heartfelt about the next teammate in line.

The two-time NBA champions needed every bit of that family bond just to survive the first test in a season that's sure to be full of them.

Kobe Bryant scored 27 points, newcomer Steve Blake hit the go-ahead 3-pointer with 18.8 seconds left, and Los Angeles rallied late for a 112-110 victory over the Houston Rockets on Tuesday night.

Pau Gasol had 29 points and 11 rebounds for the Lakers, who hung the golden banner celebrating their 16th NBA championship and handed out their impossibly ostentatious rings in a surprisingly touching pregame ceremony.

"It's always fun when this night comes and there's a chance to enjoy it," said Bryant, a five-time champion along with Derek Fisher. "And tonight it was a little more special because we all introduced each other. It's special. We know the bond that we share, and for (Fisher) to bring me out there, that was great."

But the champs then fell behind by 15 points before rallying for a fourth-quarter lead behind a 3-point barrage by Shannon Brown, who scored 14 of his 16 points in a 6½-minute span.

The clubs traded the lead four times in the final minute, but Houston's Luis Scola missed a difficult scoop shot with 3 seconds left. After officials used a lengthy video review to award possession of the loose ball to Houston with 2.4 seconds to play, Aaron Brooks' layup attempt at the buzzer was blocked by Lamar Odom.

"Getting those rings, you're definitely on a high," said Brown, who turned down significant free-agent offers for a shot at a three-peat. "You have to come back down, because that's history. That's something nobody can take away from you ever, but it doesn't help us in the next game."
Kevin Martin scored 26 points and Brooks had 18 of his 24 in the first half of Houston's eighth loss in its last nine regular-season meetings with the Lakers.

Yao Ming had nine points and 11 rebounds before fouling out with 6:30 left in his first NBA game since the 2009 playoffs, also against the Lakers. The Chinese center missed last season after surgery on his left foot, yet the Rockets were in position for a stunning win until the buzzer.

"They're the world champs, and we knew it was going to be tough," Houston coach Rick Adelman said. "But I thought we responded pretty well. I think (for) about seven minutes, we just didn't play the way we're capable of, and they got back in the game."

Brooks blamed himself for the Rockets' failure in the final seconds after he curled underneath the basket.

"When I caught the ball, I didn't know exactly where I was on the floor," Brooks said. "Then I took a dribble and realized where I was, and I tried to drive, but my leg kind of slipped."

The Rockets didn't make the celebration easy in the Lakers' first real home game since that gut-wrenching, come-from-behind victory in Game 7 of the NBA finals four months ago. Los Angeles trailed by 11 points late in the third quarter before a 21-4 run featuring 12 consecutive points.
The Lakers understandably had a little trouble focusing after the pregame festivities.

The nine remaining Lakers' rings are small asteroids of excess designed by owner Jerry Buss. They feature 16 oversized diamonds for each Lakers title, a three-dimensional rendering of each player's face, and even a small piece of the leather from a basketball used in Game 7 of the NBA finals.

In contrast, the ring ceremony was all heart. NBA commissioner David Stern and Lakers executive Jeanie Buss stood at center court waiting for coach Phil Jackson, who accepted his 11th ring and said a few kind words before introducing forward Luke Walton, who introduced Odom, who introduced Ron Artest — all the way to Fisher introducing Bryant to thunderous applause.

WASHINGTON -- Former lottery pick Adam Morrison has been waived by the Washington Wizards, less than a month after signing with the team.

The Wizards also have waived center Sean Marks, and Thursday's moves allow the team to cut its roster to 15 players.

Morrison averaged five points and two rebounds in five preseason games with Washington. He was drafted with the No. 3 overall pick by the Charlotte Bobcats in 2006 after starring in college at Gonzaga.

The 6-foot-8 forward has played in four NBA seasons, two with Charlotte and two with the Los Angeles Lakers, with career averages of 7.5 points and 2.1 rebounds.

Marks has played for five teams since entering the league in 1998. He didn't appear in any games for the Wizards this preseason.

The Celtics

The Celtics [team stats] left for Cleveland last night, and the hottest show in the NBA, a little cooler on the Heat index, chartered to Philadelphia.

Miami, with Dwyane Wade dragging his sore hamstring out of an inactive preseason, still has to learn to play together.

But the Celtics, with an 88-80 win over Miami that marked their third straight season-opening victory against LeBron James, secured something that was particularly elusive last regular season - a quality home win, this time over the league’s anointed.

Beyond James’ ability to spin out of a slow start and score 21 of his 31 points in the second half, including 15 in the third quarter, the Celtics kept this show under a small tent at the Garden.

Wade, who has to play his way back into shape, and Chris Bosh, who finished the night looking like the third banana many think he is, shot a combined 7-for-27. James and Wade combined for 14 turnovers.

And overall, after scoring only 30 points in the first half on the way to a 36.5 percent shooting performance, the Heat had to feel like the road to cohesion is longer than the one from here to San Francisco.

“They’re going to be great,” Celtics coach Doc Rivers said of the Heat. “They’ll be much better. Hopefully, we will, too.”

There was one glimpse of the Miami future - a two-man attack from James and Wade in the fourth quarter that cut the Celtics lead as far back as three points (83-80) with 1:10 left.

But it had to grate them after Paul Pierce [stats] left the game in the third quarter upon bruising his back - courtesy of attempting in vain to take a James charge - and returned for an 11-point fourth quarter.

Pierce’s latest curtain call included two huge 3-pointers, three straight free throws after getting fouled beyond the arc by James Jones, and an assist on the shot that finally put the game to rest.

Pierce passed up a semi-open jumper to rifle the ball to Ray Allen, whose corner trey over an onrushing Wade was good for an 85-80 lead with 49.8 seconds left.

The opponent and preceding hype considered, Allen admitted to having a flashback to last June.

“I actually felt like I was in the playoffs - it was the same feeling and energy,” said Allen. “With those guys coming in here the fans were ready. I could hear them when I walked into the building getting on the other team. I look forward to many nights like that.”

That feeling was contagious.

“I said to Paul as we came out here, ‘Are we in the Finals already?’ ” said Kevin Garnett, who beyond taking Bosh out of the game had a rough time in the last 4:15, when he missed three shots and two free throws, and also committed the offensive foul that set up James’ drive.

But Garnett’s late drain was offset in all sorts of ways. Rajon Rondo [stats] had 17 assists to Miami’s overall 15. Though Shaquille O’Neal did a nice job of pounding the Heat frontcourt into early foul trouble, Glen Davis was Rivers’ choice as a crunch-time center.

Big Baby responded with a 13-point, 6-for-7, five-rebound performance off the bench.

The Celtics [team stats] needed every drop, too, considering that James and Wade each hit a 3-pointer in the last 2:26, before James cut the deficit to three points with 1:10 left.

Pierce, who had already made his biggest shots, then made an even bigger pass.

“Paul had a shot, but it would have been contested and he made the extra pass,” said Rivers. “We always talk about no hero ball, and to me that was a hero pass in a great way. He didn’t have to make that pass, but he made the right decision and it was great.”

Jordan Farmar

Name: Jordan Farmar
Position: PG
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 180 lbs
Birth Date: November 30, 1986 (age 23)
Birth Place: Los Angeles, CA
Number: 2
Drafted:  26th pick of the First Round in 2006 by the Los Angeles Lakers
Experience: 4 years
Contract: $4 million

On Offense: Essentially, this part of Farmar’s game is going to be intriguing to watch.  In his four years in the NBA, he’s been running the triangle offense, which limits the importance of a point guard.  Sure, it’s a successful formula, so who cares as long as you’re winning.  However, the Nets don’t run the triangle offense and this could open things up for Farmar.  He’s not a particularly explosive point guard in the vein of Allen Iverson in his prime, but Farmar seems to be a solid shooter when a basket is needed and provides some much-needed three-point shooting to create space.   In regards to being that second coach on the floor, Farmar never really had the opportunity to shine as he did in UCLA.  He’s capable of leading a fast break, as well as slowing the tempo and getting the job done in a half-court offense.  Again, it’s going to be intriguing to watch Farmar.

On Defense: Farmar doesn’t possess the speed, long arms, lateral quickness, or keen defensive intuition to jump passing lanes to be an outstanding defender, but he at least has the will to play defense, stay in front of his man, and give up his body.  He may not always stop his man, but the latter set of characteristics will endear Farmar to head coach Avery Johnson, as well as Nets fans.

Miscellaneous:
Farmar has two NBA championship rings and in 75% of his NBA career, he’s been to the NBA Finals.  That pedigree gives him credibility to his teammates and while he won’t be looked at for sage advice as someone like Derek Fisher would, Farmar’s presence will still be an important one and should help change the attitude and environment of the Nets.

Comment:
Should Devin Harris be traded for that Carmelo Anthony guy, Farmar will obviously be a downgrade as he isn’t starter material.  And if he is, he’s a low-grade starter.  He’s definitely a good fill-in type of player when Harris makes his annual visit to injury-land, but a full-time starter?  Nets fans would need to hope that the Lakers’ triangle offense was holding back the next Isiah Thomas.

Tsunami Indonesia

PADANG, Indonesia—The death toll from a tsunami that smashed into a remote Indonesian island chain after a powerful earthquake has reached 112, with more than 500 people still missing, an official said Wednesday.

The 7.7-magnitude quake struck in the Mentawai Islands area west of Sumatra late Monday, generating waves as high as three meters (10 feet) that swept away 10 villages.

"At least 112 people were killed and 502 people have gone missing," West Sumatra disaster management head Harmensyah said.

Officials said the waters swept as far as 600 metres inland on South Pagai island, the hardest hit.

A 7.6-magnitude earthquake in September last year in Padang killed about 1,100 people while the 2004 Asian tsunami—triggered by a 9.3-magnitude quake off Sumatra—killed at least 168,000 people in Indonesia alone.

Less than 24 hours after Monday's tsunami struck, Indonesia's most active volcano Mount Merapi erupted three times, causing thousands to flee in panic and claiming the lives of 13 people.

Lebron James Commercial

The Lebron James commercial for Nike that hit the Internet today (see video below for as long as Nike allows it to stay) is about a minute long and he asks over and over…what should I do?

As a resident of Ohio and a Cleveland fan, I think I know exactly what Lebron James should do with himself. To start with, he can kiss my grits. So can Nike. It’s New Balance for me from now on, after seeing that ad. Just Do It is not a good slogan for what Lebron James did by moving to the Heat, especially in the way that he did it. Speaking of that, another thing that Lebron James can do is grow a pair. Next time he wants to leave a team, he needs to face his fans, managers and bosses in person and tell us straight up. Finally, and most painfully, Lebron James should shut up and play ball. That’s what he’s there in Miami to do, so just do it. Keep your ads to your own Benedict Arnold self.

Undead Nightmare

If you are planning to pay for the special Halloween DLC for Red Dead Redemption titled Undead Nightmare, you will definitely want to check out this review before you go and download it.

The review comes to us courtesy of CVG and you’ll be delighted to hear that the respected game site has awarded the new DLC a 9/10 score.

It looks like gamers are really getting their money’s worth with Undead Nightmare, as not only will you get new multiplayer elements, you’ll also get a brand new single player campaign as well. Plus, it’s zombies – everyone loves a bit of zombies these days don’t they.

CVG has likened Rockstar’s zombie pack to the ever-popular Nazi Zombie mode in COD World at War, as gamers will have to fight off endless waves of RDR style zombies and compete for the highest score.

If you are still having doubts on whether to pick this up or not, CVG sum up the Undead Nightmare pack nicely with following trailer.

Tariq Aziz

BAGHDAD — Saddam Hussein's longtime foreign minister, Tariq Aziz, was sentenced to death by hanging Tuesday for persecuting members of Shiite religious parties under the former regime.

Iraqi High Tribunal spokesman Mohammed Abdul-Sahib did not say when Aziz, 74, would be put to death.

Aziz has 30 days to launch an appeal. If the Appeals' Court upholds the death sentence, the law says Aziz should be hung within 30 days of the final decision. The Iraqi president also needs to sign off on an execution order.

Aziz, a Christian who became the international face of Saddam's regime, was in court on Tuesday. He was wearing a blue suit and sat alone, bowing his head and frequently grasping the handrail in front of him, as the judge read out the verdict.

It was not immediately clear if Aziz's Jordan-based lawyer, Badee Izzat Aref, will appeal the verdict, which he called politically motivated.

"We are discussing this issue and what next step we should take," Aref told The Associated Press in Amman, the Jordanian capital.

Aziz has already been convicted and sentenced to 15 years in prison for his role in the 1992 execution of 42 merchants found guilty of profiteering. He also received a seven-year prison sentence for a case involving the forced displacement of Kurds in northern Iraq.

Aref questioned the timing of the death sentence, accusing al-Maliki's Shiite-led government of trying to divert attention from recent WikiLeaks revelations of prisoners' abuse by Iraqi security forces and the U.S. military.

Transparency International

BERLIN—Somalia is the most corrupt country in the world, followed by Afghanistan, Myanmar and Iraq, an international watchdog said Tuesday.

The annual report of Transparency International found that Denmark, New Zealand and Singapore tied for first place as the world's least corrupt nations.

The watchdog group found that some countries that were especially hard hit by the fallout of the global financial crisis became more corrupt during the last year. Among those were Greece and Italy, but also the U.S., which fell to 22nd place, compared with 19th place last year.

Of the 178 countries surveyed, nearly three quarters fell below an index score of five on a scale where zero is the most corrupt and 10 is the least. Transparency International's corruption index draws on 13 different surveys of businesspeople and governance experts conducted between January 2009 and September 2010.

The Berlin-based watchdog group said the overall results show that greater efforts must go into strengthening governance across the globe.

"Allowing corruption to continue is unacceptable—too many poor and vulnerable people continue to suffer its consequences around the world," said Hugutte Labelle, the director of Transparency International. "We need to see more enforcement of existing rules and laws," she said. "There should be nowhere to hide for the corrupt or their money."

Peter von Blomberg, the deputy director of Transparency International, said that a recent verdict by a U.S. federal court that allows companies to donate an unlimited amount of money to support parties made the group believe that "this strengthens the impression that one can buy political decisions with money."

There were some bright spots in the new report—Bhutan, Chile, Ecuador, Gambia, Haiti, Jamaica, Qatar, Kuwait and Macedonia were among the countries that improved the most.

Angela Winbush

Legendary singer, songwriter and producer Angela Winbush appears tonight on TV-One’s UnSung tonight at 10PM.

I’m especially excited about seeing Angela’s UnSung because I’ve been a fan forever–from her RenĂ© & Angela days through her stint as Mr. Biggs’ Ron Isley’s first lady–but I know that my knowledge of her only scratches the surface and can’t wait to learn the nitty and the gritty of her life story. One random tidbit that I already knew, however, was that actor Don Cheadlewas a dancer in her video for “Real Thing.” I bet that Don wishes he could erase that from his resume, but videotape is forever. Check out this sneak peak of Angela Winbush’s UnSung and you’ll see Cheadle in action as well as hear commentary from Nathan East and our beloved Lalah Hathaway.

Jon Kitna: If the Cowboys are to beat Chicago and hold the Mike Martz offense in check, then Jon Kitna might be in line for a game ball even if he doesn't take a snap.

Kitna has run the scout team in practice this week in part because of his familiarity with Martz's scheme. He played for Martz in Detroit, throwing for more than 4,000 yards in two seasons.

"He's throwing it quickly in practice for us and getting us an idea of kind of what the quarterback is looking for," Wade Phillips said, "so it's been good for us."

Tony Romo

Tony Romo: Romo broke his left collarbone in the second quarter against the Giants tonight after taking a hit from Michael Boley. The Cowboys are 1-4 and are now down 38-20 in the fourth quarter. Okay, Jon Kitna. It's all yours.

Kitna hasn't taken a snap since 2008, and recovery time for Romo's type of injury is 8-10 weeks.

It is still unclear how to mend a broken heart. But perhaps with this, we can begin to mend the fact that there was no open thread up for MNF tonight.

Clavicle

Clavicle: The Jacksonville Jaguars will head into to Dallas to face a Cowboys team without Tony Romo. Tony Romo broke his clavicle on a hit he took from New York Giants linebacker Michael Boley in the first half of the Monday Night Football game. His back up Jon Kitna will likely start against the Jaguars on Sunday.

Don't celebrate too much, this is a Jaguars defense who's been thrown on by Ryan Fitzpatrick and Matt Cassel, but it certainly favors the Jaguars in the match up.

Malibu Pudding Girls - Malibu Pudding Girls Recipes.Malibu Pudding Girls Recipe: Here is the one of the most delicious Coconut & Malibu Rice Pudding with Mango Recipe.

1. Heat a heavy based saucepan over medium heat, and melt the butter in it. Throw in the cinnamon quill and pandanus leaf.
2. When all the butter has melted, add the rinsed glutinous rice in. Stir it around so the butter has coated each grain, then turn up the heat and add the malibu in.
3. Once all the malibu has been absorbed, add in the salt and the water, bring it to the boil, then turn the heat to the lowest and simmer for about 15-17 minutes.
4. Taste the rice and see if it is tender. Drain the excess water using a strainer, and then replace the rice in the pot, letting it steam dry for about 10-20 seconds. Add in the 200ml of coconut cream, turn the heat back on, and let it heat through until the kitchen is nice and fragrant. Turn the heat off, clamp the lid on, and leave it for 10 minutes.
5. Remove the cinnamon quill and pandanus leaf. Let the pudding cool to room temperature, then transfer it to the serving bowls/cups (I used martini glasses). Place a piece of clingfilm over each bowl, pressing the clingfilm down to the surface of the pudding. Refrigerate until cool. (You can do this about 2-5 hours in advance.)
6. To serve, remove the clingfilm, and place some slices of fresh mango on top. Spoon over a little extra coconut cream (and some desiccated coconut if using) and top with a sprig of mint.

Sparks Fly Lyrics

If you had a young daughter, would you want her to air her relationship woos and wonders to the world? Having her singing about her personal relationships for millions to hear? Yeah, I wouldn’t either. But hopefully Taylor Swift’s parents don’t mind, since that is apparently what she has done in her new much anticipated album Speak Now that comes out on Tuesday.  But since she is now twenty and an adult, does that make it all okay?

Most would say yes, she’s legally an adult and as an attractive young lady, you know she’s going to be busy with the boys. But did these boys know that they’d also become fodder for her songs? On the album there are two songs that are making news. The Story of Us and Sparks Fly.  The Story of Us apparently tells the story of Taylor bumping into an ex romantic interest backstage at an award show and awkwardness ensues. Sparks Fly is about the initial chemistry between Taylor and a suitor. Are both songs about the same person? (Many are guessing that The Story of Us is about Taylor Lautner or maybe Joe Jonas).

Want to see if you can figure it out yourself? Check out the lyrics below….you know Taylor’s parents will!

The Story of Us

I used to think that one day we’d tell the story of us,
And how we met
And how the sparks flew instantly
And people would say they’re the lucky ones

I used to know my place was the spot next to you,
Now I’m searching the room for an empty seat
Cause lately I don’t even know what page you’re on

Oh, a simple complication, Miscommunications lead to far love,
So many things I wish that you knew
So many walls that I can’t break through

Now I’m standing alone in a crowded room
And we’re not speaking
And I’m dying to know
Is it killing you
Like it’s killing me?
Yeah
I don’t know what to say since a twist of fate, when it all broke down
And the story of us looks a lot like a tragedy now

Next chapter

How did we end up this way?
See me nervously pulling of my clothes and trying to look busy
And you’re doing your best to avoid me
I’m starting to think that one day I’ll tell the story of us
Of how I was losing my mind when I saw you here
But you held your pride like you should have held me,
Oh I’m scared to see the ending why are we pretending this is nothing
I’d tell you I miss you but I don’t know how
I’ve never heard silence quite this loud.

(Chorus)
Now I’m standing alone in a crowded room
And we’re not speaking
And I’m dying to know
Is it killing you
Like it’s killing me?
Yeah
And I don’t know what to say since a twist of fate, when it all broke down
And the story of us looks a lot like a tragedy now

This is looking like a contest
Of who can act like they care less
But I liked it better when you were on my side

The battles your hands now
But I would lay my armor down
If you said you’d rather love then fight

So many things you wish that I knew
But the story of us might be ending soon

Now I’m standing alone in a crowded room
And we’re not speaking
And I’m dying to know
Is it killing you
Like it’s killing me?
Yeah
And I don’t know what to say since a twist of fate, when it all broke down
And the story of us looks a lot like a tragedy now
Now, Now, Now

And were not speaking,
And I’m dying to know is it killing you like it’s killing me?
Yeah
And I don’t know what to say since a twist of fate, cause were going down.
Cause the story of us looks a lot like a tragedy now

Sparks Fly lyrics

The way you move is like a full on rainstorm
And I’m a house of cards
You say my name for the first time, baby, and I
Fall in love in an empty bar

And you stood there in front of me just
Close enough to touch
Close enough to hope you couldn’t see
What I was thinking of

Drop everything now
Meet me in the pouring rain
Kiss me on the sidewalk
Take away the pain
Cause I see, sparks fly whenever you smile
courtesy OriginaLyric.Info
Get me with those green eyes, baby
As the lights go down
Something that all haunt me when you’re not around
Cause I see, sparks fly whenever you smile

So reach out open handed
And lead me out to that floor
Well I don’t need more paper lanterns
Take me down, baby bring on the movie star

Cause my heart is beating fast
And you are beautiful
I could wait patiently but
I really wish you would

Drop everything now
Meet me in the pouring rain
Kiss me on the sidewalk
Take away the pain
Cause I see, sparks fly whenever you smile

Get me with those green eyes, baby
As the lights go down
Something that’ll haunt me when you’re not around
Cause I see, sparks fly whenever you smile

I run my fingers through your hair
And watch the lights go out
Keep your beautiful eyes on me
Gonna strike this match tonight
Lead me up the staircase
Won’t you whisper soft and slow
I’d love to hate it
But you make it like a fireworks show

Drop everything now
Meet me in the pouring rain
Kiss me on the sidewalk
Take away the pain
Cause I see, sparks fly whenever you smile

Get me with those green eyes, baby
As the lights go down
Something that’ll haunt me when you’re not around
Cause I see, sparks fly whenever you smile

Hiccup Girl Arrested

NEW YORK, NY., Oct. 25 (TOTI) --

Jennifer Mee first came into the national consciousness when she appeared on the “Today Show,” revealing that she had a condition that caused her to constantly hiccup. On average, she hiccupped more than 50 times per minute. Having gone to many different doctors in search of a diagnosis or cure, she decided that her best bet was to speak on as many talk shows as she could, and hope that someone out there who knew what she should do would be able to get into contact with her. Following her appearances on most of the popular talk shows, she tried a number of the suggestions that were made by callers including eating hot mustard and eating large amounts of sugar.

Now, it appears that she has been arrested and charged with first degree murder after she and two accomplices reportedly lured a man, Shannon Griffin, into a house before robbing and shooting him. Now the blogosphere is filled with claims that she had faked the hiccup incident, and is now looking for other ways to gain attention from the media.

During her television appearances she appeared to be a well-rounded girl that was genuinely concerned about her hiccup condition that constantly negatively affected her life. Since that time, it has been revealed that she was somewhat of a social introvert that spent a great deal of her time on her computer. It is not clear what her motive was in the murder, but early speculation shows that the man who was killed was robbed before he was shot.

All three suspects reportedly admitted their involvement in the murder after Griffin was discovered behind the home after being shot with a .38 caliber revolver. Mee has faced a number of problems since her bout with her hiccup condition ended. In 2007, it was reported that she had run away from home after a missing persons report was filed about her. It will be interesting to see how she reacts to her increased media attention. It will certainly be very telling about her motives behind the murder.

Four Loko

ELLENSBURG, Wash. — Sugary, high-alcohol energy drinks that are popular with college students who want to get drunk quickly and cheaply came under renewed scrutiny Monday as investigators announced that nine freshmen had been hospitalized after drinking them at an off-campus party.

Several states are considering outlawing the drinks and at least two universities have banned them from campus while the Food and Drug Administration reviews their safety.

The issue received new attention after the Oct. 8 party in Roslyn, a picturesque mountain town known as the place where the 1990s television series "Northern Exposure" was filmed.

Police first responded to a report of an unconscious female in a grocery store parking lot and learned about the party from her friends. At the home, officers found a chaotic scene, with students from nearby Central Washington University passed out and so intoxicated that investigators thought they had overdosed on drugs.

Nine students who drank a caffeinated malt liquor called Four Loko were hospitalized with blood-alcohol levels ranging from 0.12 percent to 0.35 percent, and a female student nearly died, CWU President James L. Gaudino said. A blood-alcohol concentration of 0.30 percent is considered potentially lethal.

All the hospitalized students were inexperienced drinkers, freshmen ranging in age from 17 to 19. Toxicology results showed no drugs in their bloodstreams, though a small amount of marijuana was reported at the party, university police Chief Steve Rittereiser said.

Some students admitted drinking vodka, rum and beer with Four Loko, which is made by Phusion Projects Inc., of Chicago.

Phusion said in a statement that people have consumed caffeine and alcohol together safely for years. The company said it markets its products responsibly to those of legal drinking age and shares with college administrators the goal of making campuses safe and healthy environments.

"The unacceptable incident at Central Washington University, which appears to have involved hard liquor, such as vodka and rum, beer, our products, and possibly illicit substances, is precisely why we go to great lengths to ensure our products are not sold to underage consumers and are not abused," the statement said.

Katy Perry and Russell Brand got married

Katy Perry and Russell Brand got married Saturday in a traditional Indian ceremony, UsMagazine.com has learned.

They exchanged vows in front of 80 or so guests at the luxury Aman-i-Khas resort near the Ranthambhore tiger sanctuary in Rajasthan (the same spot where Brand, 35, proposed to Perry - who turns 26 Monday - this past December).

The new Us Weekly reports that Brand planned to ride into the ceremony on a horse, flanked by camels and elephants.

Perry, who was expected to wear Elie Saab, was also planning to have a rotating bridal wardrobe from designers Zuhair Murad and Donna Mizani, Us reports.

One thing's certain: Perry fully embraced Indian tradition for the ceremony. Days before tying the knot, she was spotted wearing a traditional Indian bridal nose ring. (It is worn by brides throughout the wedding day, with the groom removing it on the wedding night.) Perry also had henna designs applied on her palms and hands, the AP reports.

Security has been tight at the resort -- which has been lit with lamps and colorful lights -- and other nearby hotels where guests and the couple are staying for the six-day wedding celebration.

Why David Arquette choose Jasmine Waltz

Why  David Arquette choose Jasmine Waltz over Courtney Cox? Does David Arquette prefer alleged bondage film actress/waitresses (Jasmine Waltz) over sophisticated, talented women (Courtney Cox)? What is David Arquette thinking?!?

If you haven't heard by know Jasmine Waltz allegedly appeared in a bondage movie called "Poker Run" in 2009. Not exactly Oscar material. She is a struggling actress moonlighting as a waitress. The odds that she is just using David Arquette to advance her own career are high. So why would Arquette cheat on Courtney Cox with such a woman?

Sure Waltz is beautiful but beautiful women are a dime a dozen. What is harder to find is a beautiful woman who is smart and talented as well, and that is what Arquette had in Cox and it seems he threw it all away.

There may very well be circumstances that we are not aware of at this point but it really looks like Arquette just had a personal break down and a midlife crisis. The decision to cheat with a waitress is just astounding. nobody ever said that Arquette was the smartest person in the room but this is dumb even for him.

Some of you will say that Courtney Cox cheated on him with her Cougar Town co-star Brian Van Holt but there is simply no proof of that. Until proven otherwise, this looks like a case of Arquette choosing lust over love. Read the full story

Huntington's Disease

Huntington's Disease, To see Laura Jean never knows that she suffers from a life-altering disease.

Laura has Huntington’s disease, a neurodegenerative disorder inherited from her mother.

Symptoms can take many forms, including sudden movements, mood swings and memory loss.

Simple tasks like writing letters are a challenge to Laura.

“The mood swings and impulsivity and all things that are really horrible for a family to live with,” he says.

“You get to the point where they can be in a nursing home where they have significant deficiencies in their ability to care for themselves,” says Dr. Carolyn Drazinic.

Dr. Drazinic heads Huntington’s disease Program at the University of Connecticut Health Center.

There is currently no cure.

The program is doing a lot of work to find one, but there are treatments available to help control symptoms.

The capture of the status of principles helps.

“They start to see problems, for example, with its ability to function at work, to multi-task, its concentration can be reduced. His ability to remember what to do can be altered,” says Dr. Drazinic.

Laura is based largely on meditation and yoga to help in the healing process, and has the support of his family.

“You have to have a sense of humor, so you sometimes have to kind of laugh at things and I have a lot of help,” she says.

Rioting Americans

Rioting Americans:In some post-democratic, “Mad Max” scenario, the United States troops are being trained how to deal with unrest in the American case, a nation collapses into anarchy. This change in troop strength protocol now resulted in a response to riots and civil disturbances that occur in Europe. It is not too far away to think the United States will soon become the iron fist of military police-state power for the elite. As for those who are currently protected and a notch around, well, that’s their problem.

Creation of “Homeland patrols”

By PrisonsPlanet.com, the military is now asked to assume the role usually assigned to the local police. This change in protocol is designed to slowly ease Americans’ visible presence of armed troops roaming the streets in their daily lives. Thinking that it will prepare regular American troops / military action if the United States to enter after the collapse of the chaos and instability. These military groups will be focused around the “Homeland patrols” civil unrest and crowd control.

Smart planning or paranoia?

Is this a step the U.S. military such as smart planning or knee-jerk paranoia? The American leaders truly believe that all people will take up arms and revolt against the nation state as a collective mass of rioters? In addition, if it really happens, can not the local police force to deal with such turmoil?

No, it sounds like an example of the government has demonstrated its military force to make the people know, “Do not mess with American hegemony. We have the power to crush you, and if you try us, we’ll do it.”

Is this a nation that actually promotes democratic ideals, in the nonpartisan sense? What happened to the “American Dream?”

Jenn Sterger Pics :D  eadspin posted a story suggesting future Hall of Fame quarter Brett Favre has sent a lot of graphic photos – that plans for his private parts – the model Jenn Sterger.

Now, Deadspin says they have proof.

The site has not posted unbridled sports voice messages and pictures classified X which Favre had sent Sterger when the QB played for the Jets and Sterger was a reporter away from the team.

Favre’s current team, the Vikings will play the Jets on Monday night.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Favre declined to comment on the Deadspin post.

“I am not to come,” he said. “My hands are full with the Jets.

Although initially reported that Deadspin Sterger told them herself on the photos last February, it should be noted that the new evidence was “obtained from a third party.”

“Unfortunately, Jenn is still reluctant to speak on the record about this,” wrote Deadspin editor AJ Daulerio.

Rutgers Student Death

A Rutgers University freshman committed suicide after his roommate and another student posted video on the Internet of him in a sexual encounter with another man, authorities say.

"I wanted to tell them two things," said Gullickson, who teaches at the University of Maryland, College Park. "One was, if they felt like terrible things were happening in their lives, things they couldn't cope with, if they felt suicidal, to find somebody to talk to. The other thing I said was, not do something so stupid and so hurtful. Don't do what the roommate had done.

"Kids, students — maybe not all students — seem to have no sense that things that they're putting on the Internet could be hurtful to themselves or to others," Gullickson said.

The suicide of 18-year-old Tyler Clementi and the arrest of two students charged with invading his privacy have shaken students, faculty and administrators at colleges in Maryland and across the country. On campuses where students routinely hear, and ignore, warnings against "over-sharing" online, faculty and administrators are looking for new ways to get that message across.

"In an instant, this thing can become so public that you're willing to take your life for it," said Lee Calizo, student life director at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. "They think there's something that's fun and games for them that becomes this life-altering thing for the other person.

"The challenge for colleges and universities is trying to get students to slow down half a second to think about what it is before they hit 'send' or 'public.'"'

Clementi's roommate, Dharun Ravi, and a friend of Ravi's, Molly Wei, are accused of using a webcam to film and transmit footage of Clementi, a promising music student who jumped from the George Washington Bridge last week after learning of the posting. They have been charged with two counts each of invasion of privacy.

Each faces a maximum five-year sentence on the charge of transmitting the footage over the Internet. The New Jersey attorney general's office is reviewing the case to decide whether to prosecute it as a bias crime, which would double the maximum penalty on that count to 10 years. Ravi faces additional privacy-invasion charge related to collecting the images.

A few years ago at the Johns Hopkins University, "in the early stages of Facebook," a student used social media to out a gay student, university spokesman Dennis O'Shea said. The student who did the outing faced "serious sanctions" from the university, O'Shea said.

"It's unbelievable that stuff like that still happens," said Connie Calderon, a senior economics major at Hopkins and co-president of the Diversity Sexuality and Gender Alliance. "It kind of takes public humiliation to a whole new level.

"In the past, it was something that was really just word of mouth," she said. "Here, it can really take on this new level. Social media has its benefits, but it also has its negatives. It's really up to the responsibility of the users. If you are going to use the Internet to publicly humiliate another student, it's really just not worth it. It's just despicable."

During orientation for new students at Hopkins, the university addresses all forms of harassment, O'Shea said. As part of those discussions, students are told that "it is inappropriate to harass people about disclosing information that they have kept secret, including issues of sexuality."

"It hasn't been a major part of our orientation but it's certainly something that we bring up to students," O'Shea said. "Any time something like this happens, it's a good time to take a fresh look at what you're doing, and I'm sure they will do that."

UMBC has tried to get that message across to students during freshman orientation, with a program that mixes age-old advice — don't ask the professor whose class you've just skipped, "Did I miss anything?" — with 21st-century tips, like watch out for Facebook.

"We do these video clips where we show students doing different things, posting stuff to a Facebook site," said Calizo, the student life director. "'Here are some pictures of me in social scene, at a party. And I got sick.' The next clip is walking into a career center and asking for a job.

"What you post is accessible to people and to future employers. I don't think students are thinking about those things when they are posting and in the moment."

In addition cautioning students about posting embarrassing material about themselves, they are warned not to do that to others.

Jimmy Fallon Justin Timberlake

NEW YORK - Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake are the hottest duo in hip-hop -- for the moment.

They performed a medley of rap hits on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" Wednesday, and the clip is becoming a viral hit.

Fallon and Timberlake started off with Sugarhill Gang's classic "Rapper's Delight" and then performed jams from artists including the Beastie Boys, the Notorious B.I.G., Jay-Z and Eminem.

Fallon, 36, said he's surprised by the success of the skit.

"We never know what's going to viral or get picked up, and this one's beyond what we thought it would do," he said Thursday.

Though the clip looks all fun, he said, he took the time to get it right before taking the stage.

"You know I really needed to practice. You know I can't rap," said Fallon, who also performed songs by Missy Elliott, Tupac, Kanye West and Snoop Dogg. "I was in my apartment till 2 in the morning the night before doing (the) Soulja Boy (dance) and my wife was like, 'You're crazy!' "

The performance was backed by the house band for the NBC show, the Grammy-winning hip-hop group The Roots.

Jules Undersea Lodge

Undersea Lodge is the newest and trendiest in the hotel industry. It is an underwater lodge in Florida’s Key Largo area. The lodge is in the ocean ground about 30 ft (9 m) deep. Scuba dive is necessary to reach the lodge.

It is learned from the official website of the lodge that once the Jules’ Undersea Lodge was a marine lab. Presently the lodge has two bedrooms and one bath retreat.

It is the only underwatr hotel in the world at this time. Reaching it is like an encounter, diving through the tropical mangrove habitat with the Emerald Lagoon. Here one will surely understand the underwater planet.

If you have the guts to scuba dive and feels to visit this underwater wonder, it will cost you just $375 per person per night package and for couple it is only $1275. It is surely a Romantic Gateway Package for couples.
