The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead:AMC's new show is dead chilling.

After screening at Comic-Con last month, the long-awaited trailer for Frank Darabont's "Walking Dead" has been released in all its zombie-riffic glory.

Based on Robert Kirkman's comic book, the six-episode series stars British actor Andrew Lincoln stars as a sheriff who wakes up in the hospital after being shot during a stand-off to a world plagued by a zombie apocalypse.

Highly reminiscent of "28 Days Later," the trailer shows sheriff Rick Grimes (Lincoln) waking up in an abandoned hospital, looking sweaty and bearded. Upon leaving the hospital, he discovers that the streets are filled with the dead and that his family is missing.

It turns out, besides the sheriff and a few other survivors, many of the townsfolk have been transformed by a virus into grey-faced bloody mouthed zombies with no lips.

As in "28 Days Later" and "I Am Legend," the sheriff and his compadres must find their way to a safe haven before getting eaten up by the "Walkers."

The show's star is a familiar face in his home country of Britain, but American audiences may remember him as Keira Knightley's unrequited lover in "Love Actually."

Darabont is known primarily as a filmmaker and has directed epic dramas like "The Shawshank Redemption" and "Green Mile."

"The Walking Dead," appropriately, premieres on Halloween night on AMC.
