CBS “Sunday Morning” show producers plan to spend the entire 90-minute broadcast Sunday on Hearst Castle and host Charles Osgood’s first visit there.

Previous “Sunday Morning” shows have featured other correspondents’ segments about the Castle, but this one’s to be all Osgood.

In 2009, the news magazine highlighted Biltmore Estate in North Carolina for its annual “By Design” show.

CBS News ‘Sunday Morning’ anchor Charles Osgood sits Monday in the Gothic Study at Hearst Castle, where newspaper mogul William Randolph Hearst used to meet with advisers. tribune.

Monday, the bow-tie-wearing anchor, his producers and two full production teams converged on media magnate William Randolph Hearst’s palatial hilltop retreat, a state park since 1958.

Rainy weather drove filming indoors for the day, but after early drizzles Tuesday, skies cleared for outdoor shooting.

Osgood, “Sunday Morning” anchorman since 1994, succeeded Charles Kuralt, who began the show in 1979.

Shown in the Gothic Study where Hearst met with advisers, Osgood said he was awed by the Castle and what Hearst and architect Julia Morgan had dreamed, designed and accomplished.

“Sunday Morning” is seen by an estimated 5 million viewers every Sunday and is the most digital video recorded news program in America, according to Castle spokesman Dan Eller.

The show is scheduled to air from 7 to 8:30 a.m. on KCOY-TV channel 12.

Eller said the broadcast a week before Memorial Day “is perfect timing, going into summer. It will be great for the Castle and all the communities in the county.”

He said Osgood is “so excited to be here, as we are to have him. We have one news icon covering the famed San Simeon estate of another.”
