MORGANS CORNER — Racing action Friday at Dixieland Speedway featured a 50/50 raffle to benefit the local SPCA, first time winners, repeat winners and a frozen T-shirt contest. Angela Zoblisien picked up a cool $100 by being the first contestant to un-wad a frozen T-shirt and put it on.

The Little Caesars Super Street Division drivers followed 14-year-old Jake Riddle to the checkered flag for his first speedway win. Riddle had only competed in four stock car events prior to his win on Friday.

Points leader Fred Smith of Maple drove a clean race and picked up second over William Tyler, who posted third for his best run of the year. Ben Thomas equaled his best finish in fourth after sitting out last week. Cameron Williams rounded out the top five.

The Biggs Pontiac Super Four drivers were the first division to hit the track for feature events and Todd Smith of Edenton was able to hold off competition to pick up his third win of the year. Rickie Waters challenged hard but settled for second. Kyle Barnes had an impressive run for third over Lew Moulton of Moyock.

Scuba Butler enjoyed back-to-back wins in the Sissy’s Subs Stock Four Division, beating Mike Baker on Friday. Points leader James Baston was challenged throughout the event, but held on to finish third. Joe Frank picked up fourth over Justin LaCombe.

Budweiser Allstar driver Troy Williams of South Mills picked up his first win of the year after posting four second-place finishes. Ted Midgett drove a great race for second over Doug Flinn. David Pearce drove a hard race, passed cars, was passed by cars and in the end settled for a very hard-fought fourth over Larry Grimstead.

Russell Barclift is still perfect on his season, picking up a dominating win on Friday night in the Dixieland Sportsman division. Mark Overman had his best finish to date with his run for second over Troy Brickhouse of Elizabeth City. Matt Meads continued his tally of top-five runs with a fourth-place finish.

Rookie driver Jerome Little has shown a marked improvement and posted his best finish of the season in fifth.

Next week’s racing action will feature all five racing divisions and the Kids in Karts race.
