I saw Fullerton's Bushido spirit in full display in te Indians valiant effort in a 12-11 defeat to La Habra last week. Bushido translates to "The way of the warrior." It's the Samurai code.
Win or lose, these Fullerton girls go down fighting. These girls have no ounce of quit in them.
In the top of the fourth, Monique Martinez got a one-out single and Ellen Bock drew a two-out walk. Donree Greer stepped up and drilled a three-run homer over the fence in right-center field.
Just like that we have a brand new ballgame. Aliso Niguel 3, Fullerton 3.
In the bottom of the fourth, Madison Wedel and Eden Slone got back-to-back one-out singles for the Wolverines. With two outs Zharde Sellona hit a grounder that was misplayed by Fullerton's shortstop and Wedel came around to score.
Guess who's up? That's right, "The Brown Bomber" herself, Mandy Gardner. Sellona stole second to put runners on second and third, so Fullerton wisely walked Gardner to load the bases.
The bases are juiced with two outs for Dionne Anderson, who singled up the middle to drive in two runs.
Just like that Aliso Niguel has its three-run lead back. The Wolverines lead, 6-3. Make that 9-3.
The Indians brought in Vanessa Monatno to relieve Lindsey Rains. Marissa Gilbuena belted a three-run homer to left-center field and Aliso Niguel is up 9-3.
Aliso Niguel 9, Fullerton 3 after four innings.
