Marshall University says it will pursue the remaining $250,000 owed the school under former basketball coach Donnie Jones' contract.
Jones left Marshall in March to take the head basketball coaching job at the University of Central Florida.
Under the terms of his contract at Marshall, Jones owed a buyout payment of $500,000.
Marshall said Thursday it has received $250,000. It also released the following statement concerning the buyout.
"Marshall University has received partial payment of $250,000 towards Coach Jones' $500,000 buyout. Marshall University intends to take the appropriate action necessary to enforce the terms of Coach Jones' contract."
Jones went 55-41 in three seasons at Marshall. He has been replaced by former Pittsburgh associate head coach Tom Herrion.
