MARIAH Carey looks set to be American Idol’s newest judge — according to host Ryan Seacrest!

Seacrest told E! News that the pop superstar — who’s currently on holiday in Brazil — is in “final stages” of talks with the hit TV talent show’s producers.

“We are in the final stages of talks to have her on the show,” he said.

Carey’s husband Nick Cannon recently revealed that the singer would “love” to be a judge on Idol.

“You know what? She talks about it,” he said earlier this month. “She says, ‘I would love to do that.’

“She is one of the greatest singers of our time; she would be great. I don’t know if she has enough time, though, but if they could work with her schedule, I know she would love to do Idol.”

Meanwhile, Carey has sparked rumors she’s pregnant with her first child after photos of her performing in Brazil this past weekend showed her with a much fuller stomach.

Mariah revealed last year that she and Nick have “discussed” having kids.

“We’ve definitely discussed it,” she said in November. “The only thing is that at this particular moment, it’s almost Christmas. He’s doing his work and I’m promoting and doing all this stuff. Right now is not the moment.

“My parents were divorced and it’s not like, ‘Oh, woe is me!’ A lot of people’s parents are divorced but I would just like to have a nice, normal life for that moment.”

Despite rumors Mariah Carey, 40, is pregnant with her first child -- or possibly twins, depending on who's spitting the gossip -- husband Nick Cannon, 29, is keeping the speculation in check.

"If & when my wife is ready to make ANY announcements about private matters she will do it personally. Thanks for being respectful," Cannon tweeted yesterday.

But nothing's stopping him from joking about baby names. "We're gonna do it like George Foreman," he said this morning on his radio show, 'Rollin.' "We're gonna name all of our kids Mariah no matter if they're boys or girls. Mariah No. 1, Boy Mariah, Man Mariah, Tall Mariah. It's gonna be a house full of people named Mariah."

Mariah abruptly dropped out of Tyler Perry's new film earlier last week, setting off a firestorm of speculation that the singer is pregnant. Her rep quashed the whispers in a comment to Us Magazine, saying, "She is not doing the movie because her doctor advised her not to. More than that I cannot comment further."

"I'm pretty sure that when my wife is ready to make any announcement it won't be to the media, to the public, first," Cannon said. "She'll tell her family, she'll tell her friends, and then, you know, when she's ready to share with the rest of the world, who is her extended family and friends, then she'll let everybody know. So, when she tells me something, I'll tell y'all, probably after I tell my mama."

According to PEOPLE, "Canon has been vocal about starting a family with his wife of two years. 'We're going to do it,' he said in March 2009."

"It's probably a question I get asked more than anything: When are we having children?" he said this morning. "Of course, being married you want to start a family ... But you can't say, 'Well yeah, next week, Thursday, on the 4th, we gonna do this, and then we plan on having the child.' You know, you gotta leave all that stuff to God. That's in God's hands. So, when it happens, it happens, and we'll be happy."
