NEW YORK -- Jesse James says he lied about cheating during his marriage to Oscar winner Sandra Bullock.

In a brief excerpt of an interview set to air Tuesday on ABC's "Nightline," the tattooed biker and host of "Monster Garage" says Bullock was suspicious but he "lied and lied" his way out of it. He says he "lied to everyone about everything," even to himself.

The excerpt aired Tuesday on "Good Morning America."

He also says seeing Bullock in the role of mother to 4 1/2-month-old son Louis is one of the "most amazing things" he's ever seen.

Says James: "She's like a fish to water. As soon as she put that baby in her hands, it was automatic and amazing."

The child was born in New Orleans, where the couple had spent time after Hurricane Katrina. Bullock has said she'll adopt as a single parent.

JESSE James "wanted to get caught" cheating on Sandra Bullock he has confessed in his first interview since the scandal broke.

The motorcycle entrepreneur, who allegedly cheated on the Oscar-winning actress with at least four women,  admits he “felt horrible” sleeping with mistresses but believes he was trying to “self-sabotage” his life.

 "When I was doing it, you know, one, I knew it was horrible. It made me feel horrible... and two, I knew I would get caught eventually, and I think I wanted to get caught," he admits in a forthcoming interview with US TV show Nightline.

"I don't think I know for a fact now what it was, you know.

"I mean, it was me trying to self-sabotage my life."

The 41-year-old star, who has three children from previous relationships, “still loves” Sandra, 45, who has since filed for divorce.

"It's still hard for me to talk about, a little bit, because I still really love her and care about her," he added.

"I've spent my whole life with the kids and with her trying to... protect her from everything, but the most hurt she's ever been caused is by the person that wanted to protect her. It's terrible, and she's going to be hurt for a long time."

James said he knows that his wife is going to divorce him, but that the public has been much harder on him than his scorned wife.

In Jesse James' first television interview since his split from Sandra Bullock, the Monster Garage star says he ruined a good thing.

"I took a pretty amazing life and marriage and threw it away," James says in a clip from an interview airing on ABC's Nightline on Tuesday, May 25 at 11:35/10:35c.

In the interview, James admits to cheating on Bullock and acknowledges that his actions have made him "the most hated man in the world." The 41-year-old also gets so emotional during the interview that he asks to take a break.

Shortly after Bullock won an Oscar for her performance in The Blind Side, Michelle "Bombshell" McGee claimed that she had an affair with James. In April, Bullock filed for divorce. James recently returned from a treatment facility he entered to deal with "personal issues."
